USA Basketball is in the middle of holding their mini camp while trying to decide the roster for next year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup. While some of the superstars are sitting it out, names like Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Love have expressed interest.
During a press conference, USA Basketball chairman, Jerry Colangelo, was asked about having Derrick Rose join the fold. Undeterred by the Bulls point guard coming off of a serious injury, Colangelo said that when Rose is ready he is welcome to join their club.
He just missed all of last season following ACL surgery (and Bulls fans let him hear about it), but if he feels right and wants to return Team USA isn’t going to say no to a talent like that, USA Basketball president Jerry Colangelo said at his press conference Monday.
“It’s really up to him,” according to Colangelo. “We’re waiting for him to come back physically and emotionally and see how he does this year. But we very much consider him a candidate.”
Just as members of the Bulls’ organization, fans of not only Chicago, but of the NBA, are awaiting Rose’s return. Reports are that he is finally at 100 percent, and when healthy he is an absolute force, so if he can regain his MVP form of course Team USA will want him back. We will have to watch how he recovers from the rigors of an NBA season, as he may not have interest in playing extra basketball next summer. “It’s really up to him,” according to Colangelo. “We’re waiting for him to come back physically and emotionally and see how he does this year. But we very much consider him a candidate.”
