“I thought way too short term with the Garza deal,” Daniels told the Arizona Republic. “That one’s got a chance to haunt us and haunt me.”

With all due respect to Mr. Daniels, I think the Dempster deal has more potential for us and a greater chance to haunt the Rangers than the Garza one does.

Daniels is right. Half of a poor season of Garza isn't worth much, especially that much.

The Dempster deal was right on for return talent. A glove 3B that lacked impact hitting. And a pitching prospect that lacked velocity but can pitch. Neither are blue chip prospects. What you would expect from a rental

The Garza deal was a heist in numbers at first glance. After Edwards won minor league pitcher of the year. Olt found his eyes again. Rameriz was perfect in S/T? You are crazy to fathom that the Dempster return was better.

Still feel like the return on Garza was excessive -- and I love it. Still feel the same way about Dempster, but it's somewhat hampered from the Cubs perspective because Christian Villaneuva hasn't quite reached his projections. I, however, am still really high on Kyle Hendricks.

Cubs wanted Olt, Rangers said no. Settled with Christian. Olt lost value Rangers made knee jerk reaction and Theo swooped in and got the guy he wanted in the first place.

Fact he did that points towards Olt is the better talent.

Hendricks was a toss in and he is turning out to be pretty good. His lacking is velocity but the best pitch in baseball is a located fastball. He is interesting.

Perhaps we should wait till the Cubs get some actual major league production out of the returns before calling it a steal.

I thought Hendricks won minor league pitcher of the year???

I question if Edwards has the build to make it in the majors. Olt won't be long for the Cubs either if both Baez and Alcantara are indeed the real deal.

Humor me here because I've only got 12 hours of sleep in the past 72 hours but didn't Hendricks win the cubs minor league award or are you referring to something different?

Edwards won MiLB.com pitcher of the year award.

The Cubs named Hendricks there minor league pitcher of the year. I would guess because Edwards didnt pitch here a full season.
