watching all this money go up and up on 1s and 1a SPs that I am grateful that we have a true fucking ace that has a nice contract that is just purely amazing and nasty.

watching the mlb network and seeing what lester is going to get just makes me feel real good.

You got it this way for 3 more years. It's something that is becoming more common in baseball, taking risks on young ML talent like this to avoid massive contracts. I mean the Cubs have Rizzo signed on at 7/$41 mil. THe most they will have to pay him through 2019 is 11 M. Castro, the exact same thing although his total equals $60M. That's 3 All-Stars in Chicago last year making $18M total per season. Astros did a move like this as well, and I bet the Cubs look to do quite a bit of this as some of their prospects hit their stride.

If he was a FA now? I gotta think 8 years 226 (28 per)

No way. I mean Sale is a top 5 pitcher but given his unorthodox delivery I would think FO would be afraid to give him that big of a deal. I know he's never had any serious injuries and people have been saying this for years, but it sort of seems inevitable.

It's inevitable for every pitcher. He's never been hurt and is a top five pitcher in the league. Given his age, I am not sure $28 per gets it done. There isn't a team in baseball that wouldn't want him today. That gets you money you ain't worth.

He is no more likely to get hurt than any other innings eating starting pitcher. The good news is that he throws from the same slot all of the time and doesn't force anything. It is a very sound mechanic.
