Watching the Sharks get smoked tonight, largely in part due to an especially feisty Ben Eager (taking many dumb penalties) was pretty tough. I enjoyed Eager getting physical/obnoxious/dirty, but as usual- the guy didn't know when to stop in order to avoid a call. Doing it in the playoffs against a team that can smoke you on the PP- extra dumb.

So, to cheer myself up, I hit up youtube to watch the great line brawl between the Hawks and Canucks back in 09. I remember getting tickets to this game months in advance and being excited both because it was Vancouver AND it was a Kane bobblehead giveaway. A nice sunday afternoon game... got three of my friends together and we went.

And then Vancouver completely outplayed Chicago. I don't even remember Chicago having many good chances. It was just a brutal game to watch. The playoffs weren't far off and this was not an encouraging game for Hawks fans. But, thankfully it all changed in the 3rd period.

So good. Byfuglien punching Luongo. Eager body slamming Bieksa. Burrows pulling Keith's hair. It just kept going and the Hawks more than held their own. They beat some ass and quite frankly, were ridiculously penalized for it. I remember going absolutely apeshit because the penalties were so uneven and then minutes later laughing my ass off seeing the box completely PACKED. There were more Hawks in the box than there were on the bench.

Hawks ended up losing 4-0, but I've never left the UC more satisfied after such a loss.

That was some awesome moment, some people may find it bizarre but I admit I enjoyed the stretch and fun of that season more than the following cup winning season. Its probably from the growing excitement and the lack of as many bandwagon jumpers.

Although I liked Eager and what he brought, last nights game reminded me why I don't miss him.

Haha, I forgot about that. My favorite part was Byfuglien punching Luongo in the face, then Luongo trying to get his cohorts to go fight for him. I fucking hate that guy. He's a huge, ugly pussy. Just looking at his face makes me violently angry.
