What do you guys think of the Hawks goalie situation? Any chance we'll get someone at the trade deadline?

Probably not. My biggest issue is that the Blackhawks didn't start Emery either Sunday or Monday.

Yeah I don't understand why we did that either. I don't think it's imminent, but I just have this gut feeling the Kippy could end up in Chicago even though he doesn't wanna leave Calgary

What do you mean?

I think the Blackhawks goalie situation is fine. Is it great? No. There are better goalies out there. But are there any better goalies available without a ridiculous asking price? (i.e. Luongo) No, there aren't.

Crawford and Emery had a bad game each. Not the end of the world, as it happens to other goalies. But compare their numbers from last year to this year ... they're way better in 2012-13.

By the way, welcome to the boards, and keep on posting. Don't take my disagreement with you as a discouragement from sharing further opinions. Unless, of course, you suggest trading Dave Bolland. Then GTFO.

Haha not at all, I want the Hawks to definitely keep Bolland! And thanks man, I'm just starting to get my Feelers around here. I like it, and I agree with you on the topic. I feel like we have goalies and just goalies. They're not the most elite in the league, but they'll do. Do I wish we had Kippy or possibly even James Reimer up in Toronto? Yes, but I know both are unlikely to end up in Chicago. So for now, I'm content with Crawford and Emery.

I'd completely stay away from Kiprusoff. He is aging, doesn't seem like he wants to leave Calgary or has his head in the game, and having a down year (in a big way). On a bad Calgary team but still tossing up a .868 save percentage which is pretty brutal. He has been pretty up and down over the last five years and I don't think he gives the Blackhawks that steady upgrade that they can rely on.

Really the only goalie "option" out there for the Blackhawks is probably Luongo, but there are a lot of hurdles to jump in getting Luongo into a Blackhawks sweater...mainly his cap hit and dealing the Canucks what they want for one of the best goalies in the game.

True, but you don't think there's any other goalie that hasn't been talked about much that could be traded?

I think the only other goalies that get traded are purely back ups.

I think the Sabres want to trade Miller, but that will most likely come in the off season, if at all. I suppose there is a chance he gets traded.

Bernier is an untested guy but the Kings seem to want to hold onto him.

Senators are the team to watch, but once again most likely in the off season. Anderson, Bishop, and Lehner could all be traded and can probably be starters on most teams. I think Lehner is their goalie of the future so I would expect Anderson or Bishop to be traded at some point.

I just don't see a lot going down this trade deadline with goalies. Could be wrong but everything points to this summer being pretty active with teams trying to get under a new cap.

Crawford and Emery aren't elite goalies, but they aren't bad either. I think it would be big news if a better goalie than Crawford were on the market because teams hang on to really good goalies.

As far as goalies the hawks can get? probably none. Can you get thru to a stanley cup with a "meh" goalie? sure....it all depends on puck possesion and the defense that surrounds the goalie. Emery and Crawford are not ideal goalies for a stanley cup run, but neither was niemi and from there he got paid and has played well...so that could happen with crawford. Emery is playing well over his head and he is one I dont trust at all but may be able to get the job done with the depth and talent the hawks have. You may see movement within other teams looking for a goalie as the focus is on offense and defense from most of the buyers and the prices are high...the demand for goalies isnt there so asking prices may be lower.

The problem (which I guess is good to have but a crap shoot) is if both crawford and emery both playing lights out who is your guy going into the playoffs?

Blackhawks clearly want Crawford to be their primary goalie going forward, he is usually minding the net against the better opponents. It's his job to lose.

Crawford and Emery have performed better than almost every other goalie in the league this year statistically, though having a very good defense and a guy like Hammer that blocks several shots a night certainly helps.

Goaltending isn't a need right now.

Agreed. PLEASE no more past their prime. overpaid goalies. The Hawks have hiked down that road before and it wasnt a happy trip.
