This is a very interesting discussion I found on reddit, and I think it applies to many of us that know a "Bob."

From the OP:
how many lets call them Bobs do you guys see at work? Bobs are people who seem to do absolutely nothing. Employees who are on Amazon, Facebook, on their phone, etc all day and don't seem to contribute much save for maybe like 1-2 hours of excel, email, staff meetings etc. My workplace office has about 60 employees and there appear to be 2 solid Bobs. Is this normal?

I work with a "Bob," and ironically enough, his real name is Bob.
Do you work with a "Bob?"
Are you a "Bob?"

CCS has a ton of Bob's, but it cool doe. They also know how to solve world problems. Never under estimate a Bob.

There's at least 3 Bobs I know of here.... 2 are in my office and 1 is remote.

We have a business analyst that legit does nothing but read his own blog all day, hes been here over a year and still doesn't do the basics of his job. He doesn't even attempt to do his job.

Everyone slacks off during the work day, I have no issue with it.... I post here to blow off steam sometimes.... but useless Bobs need to be fired.

Proud Bob. The only time I don't Bob it up is when shit really hits the fan. And I am pissed the entire time I can't Bob.

I am a Bob. Bob Sr as a matter of fact. But in fairness to Bob it is a temp position lasting until the end of May doing a job that should pay about a third of what I am making. At the end of May it ends and I go home to collect unemployment for a year and then retire.

I do absolutely as little as possible to get by. I get irritated if someone actually asks me a question that requires thinking.

But I have been working for 45 years holding the Bob's of the worlds hands so I think it is my right to be Bob the last year of my career.

PS. No one else is suffering because I am being Bob. That I could not do.

My Dad was the same lol.... he worked as an AT&T technician for like 30+ years and was always cleaning up other technician's messes.

His last year he got his buddy's spot where every day was, go in to a building, sit in the basement, watch TV/nap.... go to lunch for 2 hours, go back to the basement for more napping/TV, go home.

He only did it his last year doe and no one was having to cleanup his mess or anything.

I have been in the communications industry for 35 years starting with Pacific Bell so your fathers job and mine are in the same field. I just do it for a manufacturer named NEC. I know exactly how your dad felt because that is EXACTLY what I am doing now. Except I can't nap or watch TV. I sit in the back cube of a 3 cube office and surf the internet 8 hours a day and then go home and come back and do it again the next day.

Life is good.

Some people spend their entire career like this.... I understand having worked your ass off and doing it for a year maybe, but idk how people do it from the beginning of their career to the end.

It does get boring at times. What is nice is it is a college campus and when the weather is nice I take long walks that sometimes eat up an hour or so and help break up the boredom.
