Everyone knows that for some odd reason Rose doesn't get nearly any of the calls he should. Now some just think, oh its because he's a rookie and he'll get them next year. I havent seen many rookies play, but after watching Brooke Lopez get to line on ticky tacky fouls called on Brad Miller, the rookie theory can't be true. That Nets game Lopez got to the line 7 times, Ryan Anderson another rookie got to the line 4 times and Rose just 1 time. I've seen many times where Rose drive to the basket, gets hacked, and miraculously makes it and the refs don't call it because he made it. I've also seen when Rose gets hack, and doesn't make it and the refs still don't call it. It is terribly unfair. VDN needs to talk to the refs, and the team captains need to talk to the refs. I see Hinrich always on the refs, but mainly for call pertaining to him. And our other captain, where is he during all this. On the bench nursing what was supposed to be a one day injury. Yeah that's not fair, if he isn't playing he cant be talking with the refs. But when he was playing, Deng was almost more soft spoken than Rose.

Anyways, here is a list of rookies and their free throw attempts

Name - FTA - Mins per game

Rose - 226 - 37
Mayo - 264 - 37
B.Lopez - 195 - 30
Love - 314 - 26
Beasley - 223 - 24
Westbrook - 393 - 32
Gordon - 331 - 33
Augustin - 204 - 25
Thompson - 259 - 27
Randolph - 122 - 16
Speights - 120 - 15
Hibbert - 105 - 13
McGee - 150 - 15
Hill - 142 - 17
Chalmers - 185 - 32

Now most of those players would get to the line a lot more if they had the minutes like Rose. This is ridiculous. I just hope he gets better calls in the playoffs otherwise we have no chance of winning a few games.

I agree. It's ridiculous, and when he starts getting calls his game is going to blow up.

I think he needs to work the refs more, and I think he needs to drive to create contact and learn to act a bit more too. It will come though. He deserves the calls, and the league will want to make him a star, so they will give them to him.

His efficiency will go way up.

I really hope that the playoffs will be called much more evenly. Hopefully the best officiating crews in the NBA will be really making it as fair as possible. If we get a fair calls, Rose will get to the line at will and we can make any series really close, if not win. I really think that's why Rose has been quieter against tougher D's its not he can't break them but if he knows he isn't going to get the call and can't finish the opportunity he doesn't even try. Otherwise, I hope that after winning ROY and working on drawing contact in the summer, Rose will start to learn how to lean in more and make it impossible not to call the foul.

I dont know that his personality will ever really allow him to be a big ref 'worker' but I do agree that once he learns to seek out contact (and of course finish through it) he will almost automatically be a top 5 pg on that alone. Along with working on his defense this summer i'd have him watch tapes of this season so that he can actually see what where he should going for the contact and maybe, for comparison purposes, compare himself to some of the other top guards in the league.

Rose plays for the Chicago Bulls and we have been screwed over by refs for 11 years now. It's becoming a concern because this has gotten worse over the year, not better.

D.J. Augustin tonight has 8 FTA in 25 minutes. I think Rose's season high is 8 in like 40 minutes.

I think it likely is just a matter of time until he can selectively choose when to contort his body to avoid contact. His contortion skills are so ridiculous that he can use them almost every drive, but he just has to learn the right times (avoiding a charge, etc.), as opposed to looking to avoid the contact every time.

He's smart, and i'm sure coaches know this, so he likely may begin to utilize this more next season after an offseason of watching tape and working on his game even more.

I agree that the fact that Rose can't buy a call is ridiculous, but for all those people saying that Rose should argue and complain more, I disagree. Maybe I care too much about Rose the person, but one of the things that makes this kid special is the fact that he DOESN'T complain. He is a humble guy who appears, from all accounts, to really have his head on straight. My hope is that just raising his status around the league - likely not until next year - will give him the calls that he doesn't get now.

Wheelchair access

(25 August 2010, Daejon, South Korea) A handicapped man, annoyed that an elevator closed and departed without him, thinks it over before ramming his wheelchair into the doors not once, not twice, but three times in all--only to plunge down the now-empty elevator shaft to his death. Simultaneous success and failure combine to earn the 40-year-old "Angry Wheelchair Man" lasting immortality as a Darwin Award winner.

The tragic downfall of this rashly rushing rammer provides a heartening example of how brilliant you are--compared to some! However, natural selection just got a little harder. The authorities traced the "problem" to elevator doors that cannot withstand a large impact. Safety regulations were strengthened after the elevator was installed, to prevent accidents "such as might happen to children and drunks."

#2

Textbook Double-Double Darwin

Who would park the car on a busy freeway in heavy fog, for a quickie?

Picture this: A young couple driving on Via Dutra, the major freeway in Brazil with tons of heavy traffic, at 6AM under heavy fog the couple decided to park the car for "dating," according to the charming Google translation. And yes, they parked in the right lane of freeway, not on the shoulder or at a gas station -- and naturally, a huge cargo truck comes by and runs right over the car, immediately killing both inside during the act. Double Double Darwin! Two (2) people making two obviously stupid decisions, and natural selection acts at the very moment the two are reproducing...Textbook Darwin Award.

You would think the 2 for 1 would get top billing, but I guess the angry handicapped guy takes the cake. Would have loved to see the expression on his face as the door opened/just before he went over the edge.

I agree. The 2-for-1 for me is the epitome of what a darwin award is.

But I see how the elevator one is more humorous. You could almost see the cartoon laws of physics creep in as the rams through the door, he pauses in mid air, looks down, holds up a sign that says, "YIPE!" with a scared look on his face (breaking the 4th wall), and immediately plummets to his demise.

I guess they don't make wheelchairs with air brakes...

I don't know, the person who had their friend try and do liposuction on them without any prior experience just because they didn't have the money to pay for a real surgery should be somewhere on that list as well.

Sucked all the insides straight out of them, but I'm sure they look great dead!

My criteria for posting the top-2 were (a) on the site, in which your suggestion wasn't for 2010, (

happened in 2010, (c) confirmed true, and (d) were rated the top stories of the year.

As such, the only liposuction one I cound on the site is here. Unfortunately, it's unconfirmed and happened in 1999.

Does the guy who got photographed assassinated the councilman in the Philippines count? I mean, technically he should be dead soon.

The number 3 entry "Glacier Erasure" actually has the most votes. It's somewhat simlar to number 1 though.

Glacier Erasure is unconfirmed, though.
