I remember after winning the cup in 2010, we had a handful of guys HAVE to leave the team due to the cap. Who is it looking like we will lose this upcoming season?

A lot of people were pissed about losing Byfuglien, I am sure there will be another fan favorite that has to be let go.

Here is a great link to the roster in regards to the cap.

Bickell is the big name!
Emery? I would love to have Ray back, he was so valuable.

It's not as bad this year as it was back in 2010.

UFA:

Bickell
Handzus
Stalberg
Mayers
Rozsival
Emery

RFA:

Kruger
Leddy

Blackhawks have just over 2 million in cap space!

Cap situation will be a little clearer if/when the Blackhawks use their two compliance buyouts. If they use them this summer (can either this summer or the next) it could free up another $5mil+ in cap space.

Do you think veteran guys like Rozsival and Handzus would sign cheap 1-year deals with Chicago in an effort to get another Cup?

Do you think other NHL teams would offer big money to Kruger? He was great for the Hawks, but I don't know if he'd be that attractive to other teams.

I'd take Roszival back in a heartbeat. He played very well in the playoffs and, as long as he doesn't command too much money, he's a great 3rd pairing Dman. I think he may be out of the Hawks' price range, however.

With Handzus finally winning the Cup, I'd expect him to try in cash in with one more contract before he retires (if he doesn't retire this summer). Another one probably out of their price range.

I think, again, it's going to be a quiet offseason for the Hawks. Re-sign the FAs that they can, and use some players from Rockford to fill in the gaps. That's how the Hawks reloaded from 2010 to 2013, for the most part: with their own youth: Saad, Shaw, Kruger, Leddy, Crawford.

Just a matter of who claims a roster spot among guys like Smith, Morin, Hayes, Pirri, Danault, maybe even Clendening.

I don't know much about the players' contract status. who do they have tied up long term that you would think they would like to buy-out?

I would take back Rozsival in a heartbeat. Yeah, we are a speed team and he is not fast, but he does not make mistakes. We know what we have with him and he does that just fine. I hope he would take a cheap deal to get another cup, but who knows, same with Handsuz.

Blackhawks are expected to buy out Montador and Olesz which should add a little cap space as well. Not sure exactly how much of that capgeek was figuring against the 2013-14 cap, but should give the Hawks at least a couple million more to play with and maybe as much 5 if they were counting all of their salaries.

Posted this in the offseason thread, but I think that Bolland will be traded, likely before the draft. That would free up an additional 3.375 million.

Let's not worry about the 2014-2015 season quite yet guys. No idea what the cap will be by then. Things could change quite a bit by then.

Are you talking about salary dump? If not, then that 3.375 is not being freed....it depends on what they get back in the trade.

I would assume that the Hawks will not trade for a vet, it would have to be for picks or prospects.
