Watched it again last night. One of my top ten movies of all time. What a great bunch of actors including a guy I knew from my working live in steel mills. The big guy, Axle, was played by a friend of mine Chuck Aspergan.

Before they started casting the movie, the company producing it took a tour of the Kaiser Steel mill out in Fontana, Ca. The group including DeNiro. Chuck was their tour guide and his signature words back then were "Fuckin eh". DeNiro asked Chuck if he would like to be a cast member in this movie they were planning and Chuck Said....."Fuckin eh".

When they cast the movie, DeNiro got his guy, Chuck into that movie. He didn't do too bad either in that movie for a guy who never acted in his life.

I like this movie a lot besides the fact that I knew someone in it. It was truly a great story of redemption when they all got together at the end after the funeral for their friend.

Anyway.....Have a great Thanksgiving, folks:)

i dont care for that film at all. i find it vastly overrated.
Strange because I always thought it was overlooked a lot when talking about the absolute saturation of Vietnam films that followed for two decades after the war ended.

It's probably Christopher Walken's best performance.

I would rank it high on my list of movies about that war, but overall not so much. It ran too long, IMO.

The Russian roulette scene in Vietnam is one of my all-time favorite scenes in a movie. But the rest of the movie I didn't really care for. Was too long and got boring.

I loved the scene at the end when all of the friends got together and sang at the kitchen table. It was a truly heavy movie about redemption. All of the main characters were flawed but they all loved each other and forgave one another for their flaws and hoped for a better life afterword. Watch the movie again with this in mind. IT was truly a classic.
