I never cared about paid mods. Some great games have spawned from paid mods. Hell the MOBA genre doesn't exist without DOTA. I was never going to get a paid mod but I felt the content creators had a right to profitize their creations if they wanted to. I didn't have no problem with the 75%/25% split favoring steam. The reason being is the game devs and publishers were getting a piece of the action and Valve was providing all the infrastructure to host these paid mods. It made sense. I took issue on how they implemented the system, there was no control. You could take someone else's mod and repost it and charge for it. I felt the system was thought up in an hour meeting and thrown together with very little planning and foresight.
