I just caught it On Demand. He is trying to shed the character that made him a star and it is not happening easy.

His audience chanting and his writers carrying over the same bits are no help either. He is genuinely funny and a great interviewer...so I think he will do great in the long run. This first year is going to be kind of awkward...hope CBS rides it out.

If this show doesn't work out.... I am pretty sure Colbert would be back on Colbert Report faster than you could blink.

The replacement Nightly Show is not nearly as good as Colbert Report IMO

We need more religion haters on TV. Glad Colbert is able to ride Jon Stewart coat tails to a network job.

Brett is right, it gets old listening to Catholic Sunday school teacher Colbert go on and on about how much he hates organized religion.

Anyway, back on earth: on the Colbert Report the interview was the weakest part of the show, he stayed in his "dip shit right wing pundit" character and most of the time it was awkward. He was at his best being the crazy O'Reilly/Beck maniac in scripted bits before the interview, and can't really do that now. Hopefully we will still get some of that in short bits during the opening, but I could see both Stephen and the show wanting to separate from that persona.
