I've never felt more impressed with writing and storytelling, as well as being so emotionally invested in a show, than I am with Mad Men. The little details, the way they weave historical context into the fabric of the episodes in clever, unexpected ways, Roger's one-liners.
I love all the characters. Well, not Pete Campbell. It's so hard to like that slimy ******/rapist. Even Betty has something so tragic in her, I identify with her struggle as a woman during that time. She doesn't have the outlets that Joan or Peggy or Megan have. I love all three of them so much, and they're so different in the ways they try to forge ahead. Joan is my favourite. She seems so confident and powerful, but she's still "just a woman" to many people, mostly men and it's a strange burden to be perceived as such a sexpot. I actually just wrote a blog/essay about the recent episode "The Other Woman" because of my love for Joan and her recent life/work choices.
Don Draper is the man you love to hate to love. Such a phenomenal character. Jon Hamm is the man and I wish we were friends.
I could go on and on about why I love this show. I fucking love it.
