I hate crowds. People, especially in large groups, are stupid animals so I normally avoid opening day of any major motion picture. Our Local Alamo Draft House Theater has smaller theaters and allows you to pick your seats from home so I decided to bite the bullet and take the family to opening day of THE MARTIAN. First of all I haven't read the book yet. To me this is the most important thing you can do to actually enjoy a movie. Not because of the Spoiler effect but because the book is always more detailed and there is almost no way to fit everything a from a book into a single movie. There is no expectation or disappointment that "this wasn't in there" or "that character didn't do/say this in the book) When possible I always read the book after seeing the movie.

So that being said THE MARTIAN was phenomenal. Matt Damon nailed his role in this and all the supporting actors really gave strong performances. There were many "edge of your seat" parts to the movie even though there wasn't an asshole character working against the group the whole movie. The harshness of Mars, space or working out science problems was enough to have to overcome to make this movie full of suspense. I'm sure there are a few inaccuracies and I walked away with a couple questions of "could that really be done" but despite that I highly recommend this movie.

I always have to read the book first. Just cause spoilers. The book is always so much better, I would rather experience the work for the first time in that form.

To me, enjoying the movie as a separate thing is not a problem. Sometimes its really cool if the movie is way different cause you get to have a new experience with the material.

That said, sometimes I don't get how people who haven't read the book get wtf is going on. Like with Harry Potter or Game of Thrones it sometimes seems crazy that people can even follow along.

I have been saying that we need the next Pacino, Deniro, and others. I always considered Matt Damon to follow suit like them. I also think Mark Wahlberg could get there. Damon is solid in almost everything he does. I have been looking forward to watching this movie. You have just peaked my interest even more. Thanks.

GoT, the show, doesn't exactly have too many instances of wtf was that or where did that come from. Sure there are many details lost in translation but its not enough to the point where you have no idea whats going on. It also does a great job of cutting out all the boring bullshit Martin throws into the books as seemingly filler content.

lol, boring bullshit. Ok.

Anyway, yeah, I know people can follow along just fine. Its just weird to be on the other side and know so much backstory. And then to watch and it goes so fast and I'm like holy shit, how do people even take the shit in, it whips by so fast.

Yes, Wahlberg is a very good actor in most genres. Transformer reboot is an exception. Even Deniro has had his clunkers but to each their own.

Dude, if you read the GoT books there isn't a fucking chance in hell you didn't walk away with the opinion that a fuckton of those chapters were filler bullshit which had no real purpose. I am not even done reading them and already have formed that opinion.

My wife and I saw it last night. I thought it was good not great. My wife loved it. To me, the story itself was kind of ****-eyed as in their not telling the crew returning to earth about him being marooned. Seemed kind of strange to me. I did like Damon in the role as well as the supporting actors also.

Just guessing but he is a flaming liberal. As is most of Hollywood.

Yeah, he is a flaming liberal but he does a good job acting as does Sean Penn and others. these people just do not think like normal people. They are in love with themselves for the most part and think that they are smarter than anyone else. Truth is that they aren't really very smart but like Obama, know how to read a script.
