Why don't the Cubs follow their way? I'm not saying the Mets are a smart ballclub, but I think their doing right. Right now...

Thoughts?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
What exactly is the Mets' approach?

Is it building through prospects?

To me the Mets and Cubs are in similar situations right now.

No...he meant, paying players to hurt their team the least.

The Mets ate 12 million of Ollie Perez's contract a few days after eating Luis Castillo's big contract.

The OP means, why don't we just eat the Silva deal...8 million + an additional 2 million for early termination.

It's 6 million, then a 2 million buyout. That's 8 Million total.

Oh and yeah, the Mets ate 6M on Castillo's contract. To go along with ZAN's post.

As a Mets fan (NL team) the Mets have built one of the best front offices in baseball. Their new GM is Sandy Alderson (mentor to Billy Beane) plus adding Desposada and JP Ricciardi to the office, all whom were part of the moneyball front office.

The Mets are in a great position, down the road, to build a good solid farm team, a low cost team that will be good and playing in New York will cause huge $, plus being able to spend on premier free agents.

The Mets have some money coming off the books in the form of Castillo, Perez, K-Rod (possibly), Beltran and Jose Reyes (but will probably resign).

Mets will see better days.

I agree, but it's really A) not fair and B) Special person for a team to be cutting players when they are bankrupt.

Please somehow do your best explain how Silva HURTS the team being here.

How?!?!

I'm not explaning.. If he pitches like he is, he will. Let the kids play or give the spot to someone more rewardable. That's it.

Oh okay.

Well if Soriano hits like he is (227 OBP?!?!) he will hurt the team.

Why not let a kid play or give the spot to someone more rewardable.

So lets cut Soriano as well.

His contract is too big righht now to even think of that. They would look for bad contract right now. But Silva's case is completely different. That's what I'm going with.

He's making 11 million this season... how does that make the owner cheap? You want 11 million bucks to disappear? i wouldn't

It's the point presented. Hes making a lot of money. How does keeping him around make our owner cheap? And this is not directed at you Jntg its at him so please don't comment
