I like cars... always have...
When I was a kid you could get a big block muscle car on auto trader for a grand.
Same car (number matching) is six digits and more now.
Loved hearing about strong cars from my Dad and Uncles.
The muscle car era ended with Carter, gas crisis, 55 MPH max etc...
That being said...
Has anyone noticed the last half decade how cars are getting rediculous power and performance?
I find it astounding how a 2.0 Turbo Audi is pulling close to 4 seconds 0-60 and 12.5 quarters.
I think it's a great thing... driving is fun again... granted an expensive hobby.

Just curious on your thoughts... if you're a car guy.

My favorite teams
  1. Colorado Rockies
  1. Atlanta United FC
  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Orlando Magic
  3. Phoenix Suns
  4. Sacramento Kings
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets
Im a fan of cars, but only modern cars. Contrary to popular image cars made beofre 1990 were total shitboxes. A 1969 anything was a rattling deathtrap. Tolerances were none existance, fit and finsih was total shit. Try to buy a car back then that didnt have shakes and rattles and carper that didnt fit off the factory floor. People love mid 60s Mustangs and Camaros and Vettes but I owned those and they were garbage when new

Had many big block cars but I'm thrilled with my truck with the coyote engine. When the warranty runs out my buddy that owns a performance shop thinks it will be easy to get 100 more horses for little money. It already has 360.

It is absolutely insane the numbers cars are putting out.
I have a Charger srt that put out 425 stock before any upgrades, and it is the most ridiculous 4 door daily driver I have ever had.

It has really ramped up over the past decade. I had an 01 Camaro ss that was 325 stock.... the 2015 v6 camaro puts out 323.

I have dumped buckets of cash in to a 350 for a 79 firebird that I am playing with, and I dont think it will touch the charger unless I get stupid and supercharge it. I love newer cars performance, but the bodies of the older cars are gorgeous and unique.

May be true but the investment was smart had you known.
My Dads cousin Connie bought a 69 Yenko 427/435...
They laughed at him for paying over 6K in 69.
He still ownes it... one owner... under 50k miles.
The original sticker is framed in his garage.

Not many have the patience or foresight to hold. That same 69 Yenko in 1979 wasnt worth much. It's only been 25-35 years later that he really appreciated

To me that Yenko is still a rattling piece of shit

Oh I agree... He kept it cause he loved it.
Wasn't until the 90s when he realized it was that valuable.

No, not posting pictures I like of cars. This is what my first car looked like, except I didn't have coded mirrors, mine were chromed or polished. I got it when I was 13 with my own money. Spent a lot of time working on it and getting it to run. Originally a 440 magnum, not the 6pack. And like you say, they weren't all that expensive to grab at the time. The block had a crack in it, which is why I got it so cheap. But finding another block at the time was impossible, and at that age, my machine skills were limited. I was able to find a 360 from a police diplomat, and that thing was no slouch. Probably better for it too, because it's much better on gas and more reliable for a teenager on a budget.

*edit* Oh yeah, the topic. As far as new muscle cars. I geek out when I can modify a car to get better fuel economy while improving performance. So I really don't get as excited with it as I used to. It's cool stuff, but I don't have the money to buy a car just for the track, and trying to be a dick on public roads doesn't interest me.

I leased a Dodge Challenger this year. A V6 with fuel injection. The car's acceleration is amazing. We just got back from a trip to southern Oregon and it just freeking flies. I am pretty much a Chrysler guy with my first real car being a '70 Cuda. That car was special. Fire red with white leather interior, 8 track player and four on the floor. This is going to be the last year that they are going to make the Challenger. Next year they are coming out with a new version of the Cuda. That will be my next car.

Dodge certainly has come around after the dark years in the 80's and 90's.
I hadn't heard about the cuda, but I am certainly going to look in to it. I have always wanted one around the same year as yours.

I loved the Hemi-Cuda since the movie Phantasm.
My Dad had a 65 Ford Galaxy 500 with the 390 Police Intercepter power plant.
He said he could see the whole Hemi in his rear view out the gate... Right before they roared passed him.

If going American can't beat it. The viper just isn't comfortable especially with Midwest roads.

I'm weighing my options I like to buy American. I don't like the mustang so if I get another car probably be challenger hell cat or a camaro. I just hate buying dodge Chrysler builds cheap to sell volume opposed to quality

If I look at euro cars which I'm not a fan of doing it will likely have to be used cause the discount on just two years used is big time.
