I think weed should be legalized unfortunately what Im hearing though is whether a state legalizes it or not, California is still subject to federal drug laws.

Will legalizing weed have any benefit as far as organized crime? probably not, they will just double their effors selling coke and heroin.

Legalization of marijuana would keep people literally just smoke weed, from ruining their lives on a drug charge, anybody that has smoked weed before and experienced it, should know it seems pretty damn ridiculous they would toss someone in the can for that especially in comparrison to alcohol.

As for the pot head in the article. Its the nature of the business you dirty hippy. The WHOLE reason prop 19 exists isnt because they thought lets be nice fellas and legalize it, they see dollar signs. I still cant fathom why they would be against prop 19, i mean it makes no sense. Do they think if they just legalized it no strings attached corporations wouldnt bother? No a vaccuum (I can never spell this word) would occur, and large corporations have the resources to start up the business and most people would be getting supplied by corporate suppliers.

In the end WTF does it matter? I still dont get why they are against it. How is no legalization better than at least "some" legalization from a pot heads point of view, if you want to break the law and grow more pot than your allowed then do it, sure thats illegal but at least then you can go smoke a joint on your front porch in clear view of a cop.

As mentioned earlier this may all be for naught, since the feds can put a damper on all the fun.

I still don't see how cash-strapped states (like California) can't see the additional tax revenue from doing this...

Marijuana being illegal is a joke and hypocritical. Legalize it and reap the tax rewards

I am just curious to see what happens if this passes. the feds have basically said they are going to have a field day enforcing federal drug laws in california.

I am also curious if this will have a domino effect and other states will follow suit. It would be funny to see every state legalize it but the fed still outlaw it.

Alcohol is a worse drug than pot. And I don't even and have never smoked weed (except once and I didn't like it). How Alcohol is legal and pot isn't, anywhere in the world, is beyond me.

again, states rights.

Illinois would benefit as well. We are cash strapped just like Cali, if not worse, and the tax benefit would be amazing. Some towns (I think Sugar Grove?) have decriminalized small amounts, and if you are caught with it, ya get a fine of a couple hundred bucks.

Unfortunately from what I heard on the radio this morning it sounds like there is not enough support for it to pass.

that is how the medical was too in CA at first. I doubt it will pass this time around either.

But if (when) it does, and CA brings in (I think a read an estimate of) 3.1 bill in taxes, how can other states NOT follow suit. I was just curious what others thought about that.

Stu, remember, it doesn't count if you didn't inhale.

I hope it passes but even its supporters seem to be saying that this was just the first shot at getting it on the ballot, and that they're really aiming for next time. It would make things so interesting if it were to pass.

From what it sounds like the fed is saying Cali can shove its states rights right up their ass. If they legalize pot, they have basically said the federal government will still enforce federal drug laws in california.

As Stu was saying, i honestly think politicians against legalization of marijuana have their head in the sand.

Just like underage kids who want booze get it, people that want weed get it. Marijuana will be readily available whether its legalized or not, may as well save tax payer dollars in law enforcement on a drug that is no worse than booze on top of that reap the tax rewards.

Seriously the government is so hypocritical. They jack the shit up on taxes on cigarettes, something that does nothing than satisfy an addictive need and contribute to an early death. I like how sometimes the government claims "its to help people quit". No it isnt, you, just like tabacco companies have an addictive product thats making you money, it isnt in your interest for people to quit and you jack up taxes because you need more money and know most people wont quit.

I've never touched the stuff, but I hope this passes. Maybe it will kick the cartels in the balls, but I highly doubt it. Those ******* need to go away.

IL Gubernatorial race. I don't like either one, but I can't let an inexperienced Republican get the gig....even though I am a Southern Illinoisan now...
