While this could be a coincidence. When I jumped on the highway tonight, I hit 60mph and my car felt like it was going to shake itself apart. It got so bad I thought I had a flat tire and pulled over. Its weird, feels perfectly fine until I hit that magical 60, and there is some serious vibration. My car was literally buried in the snow. So Im dropping it off at the dealer saturday (its only 4 months old, so its under warranty). I am going to refrain from telling them it was buried in snow though, I would prefer they not find an excuse not to cover it under the warranty, seeing as in the warranty, pretty much any nature related damage is not covered.

I don't see what being buried in the snow could possibly damage... Sounds like an alignment problem to me. You didn't drive it out of the snow forcefully did you? What kind of car?

Its a 2011 ford fusion. I kind of drove it out forcefully I suppose you can say. I dug it out, but still got a little stuck backing out, so, I pulled forward, got momentum and backed out. then parked somewhere else. Really ive done far worse with previous cars with no ill results. I find it hard to believe backing up and going forward a few times to gain momentum caused this. Ive had the alignment issue before in previous cars, believe me this is different, first of all with alignment I usually the steering wheel is off center to drive strait, and this vibration is far worse than Ive ever had with alignment issues.

All I can think is transmission at this point. If it was fine before you parked it and it got buried, and now it's doing that, you must have screwed it up getting out of the snow? What else would have caused it? Still, getting a running start to back out shouldn't have damaged anything. All you can really do is bring it in and see what they say. The extreme cold probably didn't help matters either. It can be hell on engines/transmissions, especially if buried in the snow.

Perhaps ice in the wheel well or axle or other parts of the car. There are several white outs I have dealt with up north that I thought it was mechanical. Just turned out that certain speeds got the ice to vibrate excessively.

Or perhaps everyone is over-thinking this and overlooking the obvious which it that his car is a ***** and thinks he's a mo-fo and just doesn't like him.

My car was doing the exact same thing. Right at 60. There's ice/snow in the tires causing them to be unbalanced most likely. Best bet is to spend some extra time making sure it's all out. I don't have a garage to let it melt so it's kind of a pain.

Testicles Sound Delightful, I had the same issue this morning with my Nissan. The bottom of my drive way had a bit of a mound of snow, and being the lazy asshole I am, I tried to plow through it going in reverse. Needless to say, I got stuck and had to shovel my way out a bit and try and rock it to get out (not fun driving manual). I got it out, but on my way to work I had the same issue.

When I got to work, I checked my tires and inside the rims was a shit ton of snow. If I were you, I'd check that first to see if any snow got jammed inside the rims. Once I got the snow out, my car was fine.

Funny shit. That sounds like the culprit now that you guys have brought it up.

WOW!

Just got mad shivers from reading your post TSD. I went to my keyboardists house today, and boom right at 60 my car starts shaking bad enough to the point that I pull over and see if my tires are flat. They weren't, back right was slightly low on pressure, but that wasn't it. Somehow I made it home and looked a bunch of shit up on it. Its definitely the snow in the rims. I ripped open my garage door threw it in there just now after our gig and am letting it thaw. Also got my hands in there scraping the ice off the brake pads. I'm taking it to a self serve car wash today for good measure cause I gotta drive back home for 2 and a half hours tomorrow......might be 3 and a half if I can only go 55.

And btw, I have a Jeep, and yes I drove it forcefully in the snow, the thing is a bear and I didn't get stuck once. It made me feel good.

It is. A common. Problem with the snow and high winds we had. Snow packs in your wheels and will cause an out balance wheels.

All you have to do is go through a car wash and everything should be ok.

Just a question. I'm going to take my car through the wash now and it is pretty cold in Davenport. What are the odds of the ice and snow just reforming from the car wash?

Some will but it will usually be thin enough to break up and fall off.

Yea just got it washed an did some serious undercarriage cleaning. It is unbelievable how much snow and ice build up was under there, enough to fill a wheelbarrow. My Jeep's been sitting in the garage with a space heater next to it for the last hour and a half so hopefully that'll also do some good. I got 4 kids and me that are coming back to Chicago today.
