Isnt this the same company that found that spanish ship?

What is your opinion of who should get these old wrecks they find? Odyssey obviously looks for them with the intent of keeping them, but do you think the "nation of origin" should have rights to them?

The Spain claim was dubious in my opinion, it was from the 1500's, anyone who had any claim over that shit government or otherwise is long gone.

Like in the Hotel business and lost and found. After 90 days if something hasn't been claimed it's a free for all.

I have scored about 5 i pods (2 of which I forgot at other hotels), a Nintendo DS, a good camera, and 2 babies (although i returned those to the lost an found).

Interesting question though TSD. I may have to ponder this one. One side of me says if the items are significant to a countries history and culture they should be in their hands. I wonder what a country like the US would want if one of their ships were found off the coast of China or Spain that included some ancient American artifacts. I am sure you would all put up a fight for those items to be returned...and rightfully so.

The other side of me is one that is the good ole finders keepers!!!!!

Obviously some sort of arrangement would have to be made with those who invested time and money and health into making the findings would have to be made. There has to be some sort of fair payoff for them.

Also I don't believe in removing old wrecks all together. Those that have become reefs and homes for the underwater life forms need to remain there for nature to do what it does. I know I know...it's time to blast the environmentalist asshole who thinks fish are more important than little human babies. Well **** you all the ocean wins and gets to keep what you threw out. You forced it to take your oil spills now it's taking your boats. Don't **** with things that are bigger than you are. The Ocean will always win!!!

Interesting.

It is interesting that last statement made in the article about how there has been more exploration of the moon than the Ocean floor. As an environmentalist I do hope that when we start exploring the Ocean floors more that we do so with great precaution. I agree we should be exploring the Ocean floors more and trying to find technology that will make it easier for us to do so. Probably should have been doing this long before investments in exploring the moon even though for all the crap NASA did get they have done some great work.

Just lets think before we start jumping into Ocean floor explorations. Let's keep the damage to a minimum as best we can. Good luck with that.

It is pretty amazing that this much silver has been laying at the bottom of the Ocean floor for this long from a boat wreck and it is just being worked on to be salvaged now. and to think the British Government only gets 20% of the salvage while the company salvaging gets 80%? Governments are probably foaming at the mouth to put together their own salvaging companies.

If any government did this, you know damn well they would manage to spend more taxpayer dollars than they made hauling up loot.

Finders keepers...

Seriously if these countries wanted their shit so bad. GO FUCKING GET IT. Don't wait for someone to find it and then say "Oh that's ours you can't have it"

Also if found in international waters...really at that point **** the country of origin, it is in international waters so it is anyone's fair game.

Odyssey is friggin awesome! I am on their updates mailing list.

Unfortunately for them they spend just as much money operating their business as they do in court defending their claims to discovered shipwrecks.
