Well, it would certainly help marketing the game.

Edit: a vast improvement over GB is what I mean, of course.

Anyone but Buttman is fine with me.

Better yet, Brett Hull would be solid...IMO.

McDonough has a history of marketing the hell out of teams. I say let him try and expand the NHL market

Hull?

Do you have any idea what the commissioner's underlying job is for hockey...or any major sport for that matter? In this day-and-age, the owners agreeing to allow any ex-player become commissioner would stun me. Not likely.

Something about allowing a guy who doesn't appear to be that knowledgeable on hockey to be the commish doesn't seem right.

He's been an outstanding team president and great for the Hawks ... but that job might be more than he can handle.

Being the Commissioner actually does not require a ton of knowledge of the sport. Plus you have guys like Brendan Shanahan who are there to consult on the game and rule changes. Gary Bettman comes off the wrong way but he has done a fine job expanding the NHL since the lockout. I still think a lot more could be done to expand the greatest sport on earth and I would like to see someone else get a crack at the job.

John has done a great job in Chicago but lets be honest most of the new fan base is here because we have a young exciting team that wins now, that has little to do with the team president. He has taken what the front office has put together and marketed it brilliantly though.
