Oh make no mistake, you're right about Mack being the factor that tipped the scales our way. Mack is the reason this defense is making the jump from a top 10 defense to Elite.

Just curious, is it typical for elite defenses to give up a 20 point lead in the 2nd half of games (GB) and then give up a 2 score lead while surrending over 540 yards of offense to a Brock Osweiler led team?

No and no.

Well unless it's something absurd like facing Aaron Rodgers with a bionic limb or playing a game in the middle of October that peaks around ninety degrees. Then I am sure that defense would have perfectly good reasons to just lay down and die.

Not sure if you've been following the NFL this year (I assume you haven't), but the elite defenses haven't been all that great in general. Rams were thought to be the best defense going into the year, and they've had mostly subpar performances. Vikings got torched by Josh Allen. Jags just lost 40-7 to Dak Prescott and Cole Beasley. Bears are still 4th in points allowed and 1st in turnovers produced, so I would call them elite. Its interesting that in the games which the defense didn't play well (GB & MIA) were the games in which the Bears offense was dormant for entire halves.

I think total yards allowed was left out. I believe we're 10th now. Patriots might push us outta top ten to non-elite status in that particular stat.

Yes you want an offense to score on every drive....we all do but its just not going to happen...ever for any team which is why they play 4 qtrs. Fact is the offense did their job and put enough points on the board to give our "elite" defense cushion at the end of the game with large leads and our defense didnt come through....twice.

23 pts and 28 pts should be enough in the NFL if a defense is truly "elite" ,,...they have their elite moments but whether its coaching strategy or conditioning, they just seem to slack at the end of ball games. if the offense is needing to put up 6 tds a game then the defense is most certainly not elite.

Thanks. Given the replies, I think people define "elite" in different ways. I do believe total yards is what is used to rate defenses. I see that we're now ranked 10th.

I'm not sure there is an "elite" D in the league this year. Perhaps giving up 540 yards and a couple hundred yards YAC is elite nowadays as well as giving up big leads. That doesn't scream elite to me.
