Depends on the shape of the windows. I can't really see them being more difficult aside from hard to reach spots. There shouldn't be as much cutting for a home window. I remember my pops and I tinting my car windows and it was a pain because any little speck of dust/hair/etc. fucks up the whole job. If you have oddly shaped windows, might make it pretty tough, but you won't be constrained in space like you would in a car.

those specks is what caused me and friend to **** shit up.. and cutting it wrong. I get the importance of properly cleaning the surface now. I dont even remember scraping the windows clean

light isnt an issue, itll still get some light. two side are windowed with a window door leading outside.. issue is with the lack of privacy at night with these films. however, we generally arent in the sun room at night so its no biggie. we could always add outdoor lights at night to combat this issue if it was all that.

its fairly dark where we live at night, with limited street lights... running bright yard/house lights at night would probably piss off the hood. i wouldnt blame em either.. the stars up here are bigger and brighter then any deep in the heart of tejas.

smart tint costs a lot, so thats out.. i could also do selective frosting to block views at certain levels, but would rather have a full view looking back outside. The way our sun room sits, i only have to see two neighbors if they are outside in their backyard, but that's more then enough. one neighbor always be outside with their two kids.. moreso in the summer with they pool.. id just like to be able to walk around half naked in undies or shorts.. maybe work out shirtless without looking like a pedobear...

Maybe plant shrubs, and keep them trimmed down to just above your crotch level.

You don't keep the tint if there's anything in the tint. You rip it out and start all over. That's what makes it such a pain in the ass. Nor would it stop much sunshine. I doubt he's going to be putting double limo tint on his house windows. I mean, 30-35% seems ideal for a house window. You can go maybe as dark as 20% if doing it more for privacy.

House windows aren't like car windows. House windows have trapped argon gas, so when you install tint, unless you're absolutely sure on your window type, gas, glass type, panes, then you might trap heat IN the window which will make it expand. Expanded seals on double pane windows will break the seal and your windows will basically be good for shit at that point.

My windows are all semi-polarized. A mild privacy mirror, but it's only effective beyond 15 feet or so. I forgot which VLT, but it's not that dark. However, the tint is built into the window because that stuff off the shelf will eventually get scratched up. IMO a worthwhile investment over triple pane windows, although IIRC, triple pane blocks slightly more heat than tint, unless you go with a 15-20%(which isn't that dark if you get a silver tone).

So basically, find out what kind of windows you have, then figure out if you want a copper, silver, titanium, or color toned windows. Watch some youtube videos or whatever you need to get the confidence to do the job. It's very easy, just take your time, you're not some competition speed installer(some of those guys wind up with jobs that bubble after a few months, and they simply don't care).

it is a sun room, so id like to keep it minimal. BUT... some privacy for me and me neighbors is needed imo.

idk what was so special about the curtains we had.. they came with the house.. they was handmade, certain materials etc.. shit me wife knows.. but they seemed to absorb some light even when completely open. they looked nice, but i didnt like them personally. after removing them my wife saw the extra light that came through n wants to keep it minimal too. plus it makes the room feel larger without them.. the room is not that small.. its about 269 square foot.. enough space for a kid area and a workout area.. but it feels larger without shit on the windows..

may just do some selective frosting with film to block off eye to eye contact levels at a minimum. i dont really want a complete frosted window look, i like being able to see outside.. one of me issues with mirror tint was not being able to see out at night.. if i do a selective strip or strips of frost, we wont have this issue at night.. the frost film is cheaper too...

If you're trying to save money just buy the cheap metal ones you can pull them up for light, or close them for total privacy and adjust to still have privacy but some light if required. Probably a couple hundred bucks and an hour to install.

PS I feel you on the curtains we had these massive floor to ceiling ones when we moved in. Switched to the light filtering blinds that go up or down and love them. They were more costly than cheapo ones but are amazing.

im trying to earn money.. this is extra money insurance paid out.. they gave us 4k for curtains.. cheap metal blinds would look like ass and wouldn't fit well on our windows.. not standard deep frame house windows i guess.. you would have to hang above the windows like people hang vertical blinds over some sliding glass door frames.... would look weird.. they arent deep frames like you may be thinking.. and the sizes would need to be cut to fit.. so i would have to order custom blinds.. ordering 6+ f h x roughly 33ft w worth of blinds aint cheap in aus.. we talking thousands for really nice fitted ones..

Yes, I wouldn't do that then.

Tinting just seems like a weird choice to me.

yeah im looking at something like that. its fairly cheap.

i could tape off some designs and use the spray can frost but its like 20 dollars a can in aus and the fumes are a bit much. i could probably mix up some acrylic glass paint and use me air brush to bypass cost and fumes. that would be the cheapest of all the option. id like to save my paint though.. the frost film is pretty reasonable. especially if i just do a selective minimal pattern.. something like youd see in an office...

look would be meh.. but would function day and night..

would be something like this.. but maybe only using one or two rows.. just gotta debate with wife.. if day time is the goal.. mirror would look the best, but no night time privacy and not being able to see out the windows at night would suck..

I dunno maybe I'm just not up to the modern trends of pimping my sun room.
