Before I start with what this thread really is... I think I should be made a mod, :woot:
alright. I want real facts. Not D3A screaming your a tool and there is no facts in here. if so just lock this shit cuz it's pointless. This is not about a McDonalds parking lot, not about IF Ricketts is going to spend. Rules
1 150 mil payroll
2 starting as of now with our current roster
3 assume that all options are dropped (everyone slated to be a FA in 13 ad 14 is a FA ommit options or POSSIBLE extensions)
4 you have until 2015 to make a WS contender or it's a bust
5. If you are going to make trades make them realistic.
6. If you're gonna call up guys from the farm give a serious estimate of what you expect out of said players.
it's kind of like a game just give it a shot.
PS IF D3A STARTS BEING DUMB IGNORE HIM I DON'T WANT THIS GETTING LOCKED FOR POINTLESS ARGUMENTS THAT WE ALL KNOW ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE.

You mean player/team options from guys who are already under contract and slated to become free agents if they're not picked up, correct?

Does this apply to possible extensions?

We're just gonna assume that everybody drops all the options so everybody just becomes free agents. It's to complicated trying to determine who is going to get picked up etc. So Cano Cain Hamels all FA. But you have to give them a good deal not 4 years 200 million so its a sure fired bet you get them.

Okay, I can see that.

It's going to be somewhat difficult though because there are very few assets in the organization that other teams would want to trade good MLB-caliber talent for, and the assets that we do have, the Cubs will want to keep. That's why I believe the best thing to do is to let contracts expire, keep drafting as well as possible and bring some Dominican and Latin American talent along, then re-sign and extend the guys in-house that are good.

If Cain and Hamels are available I believe you can only sign one of them because you don't want to give up too many draft picks, and you also don't want to put $40MM into two guys are are more likely than not to get injured because they are pitchers. If Cano is available you pounce on that, but I don't think he's that good of a defender (the bat makes up for it though).

Honestly I'm inclined to just wait it out, draft well, and use stopgaps. I think with a core of Rizzo/Jackson/Castro and some average pitching, the Cubs could sneak into the second wild card within a couple years. That does depend on how fast the 2011 draft class develops and whether you get some other diamonds in the rough from previous drafts and this coming draft.

I think the current plan that involves a lot of prudence and patience is going to get the Cubs to contenders by 2015 as suggested in the opening post, though.

Well, it IS the internet

Let's just see where this goes. I submitted my response. I'll think of more specifics later. Very difficult to judge amateur talent this early, even with this year's draft a couple months away.

Im the one being dumb..im the one who did this on other thread and got blasted for NO REASON!!!!! First Timer and Wrigely were being the Tools of the thread... Its ok for other guys to have opinions but not me. Vick now your a TOOL!!!! In the closed thread i already put together a good team with 140 mil payroll. Rice Cube as for losing picks, Losing a 2nd and 3rd RD pick for 2 Cy young contenders does NOT HURT THE TEAM NOW OR FUTURE!!!!! Il take a young STUD SP over a prospect anyday of the week.

Yes, tear down Wrigley and re-build.

I agree with this. Cubs havent won in 103 yrs and the once thing that has been around for 99% of it is Wrigley!!! They have changed players, owners, GM's, and managers. So only thing left is Wrigley Field. Wrigely you need 2 different teams a year. April, May you need small team, June, July, AUG you need power team, SEPT, and OCT if they get there you need small ball team again. Tough to build 25 man roster like that

Re-vamp Wrigley and not tear down Wrigley, is what I'm in favor for. I love Wrigley Field.

Nobody cares. The more you use insults the more I'm going to ignore you. Grow up already. Everybody in the forum isn't a tool for calling your bullshit and ludicrous ideas out when you don't even back them up with facts, then you go back to the beginning of the argument which you already are proven wrong on. Seriously drop it already or your going on the ignore list. Cuz I'm really just sick of reading 100 posts half caps with you bullshitting over the same old shit over and over again. I don't want this thread closed so leave your tool comments and whatever other bullshit excuses you use at the door before you enter. :nope:

So you want the team to have a huge payroll while building a new stadium, while the owner is still recovering from paying close to a billion dollars for the team, and is spending money on other things? How much money do you think he has?
