To Trade or to Not to Trade Luol Deng? That's been a cause of controversy for numerous Chicago Bulls fans.

PROS:
- save money
--> allows the bulls to pick up more pieces in free agency
--> avoid the tax
--> he's inline for an extension soon and he would want a ton of money for his final big payday.

- get a similar guy who has the possibility of being better than deng (harrison barnes)
--> Deng's peaked, WYSIWYG
--> cheaper, on a rookie contract

CONS
- lose a proven veteran
- lose a leader of the team

Put me down on the trade Deng bandwagon.

How can there be pros and cons to a trade where we dont know what we're getting in return?
This is just a pro/con discussion list for a possible trade of Deng.

If I was the Bulls GM I wouldnt trade him unless I got blown away and someone overpaid. Deng is very underrated most important player on the Bulls when he plays well the Bulls when healthy are tough to beat very underrated dude.

I'd agree that it really depends on who we trade him for, but that's fairly obvious.

From a strict salary perspective, I'm not sure if it's entirely necessary to trade Deng when you can amnesty Boozer. Boozer makes more, probably contributes less, and will give you an extra million or so with which to pay his replacements.

Teamwise, I don't think it's a good idea to trade Deng (unless it's for someone who is an obvious upgrade, or if somehow we get good players and somehow save money in the process) because he really is the glue holding this team together. Sure he's overpaid, but there's far worse contracts in the NBA at this point. Getting rid of Deng means losing arguably our best defensive player (imo Brewer is a better defender, but whatever), a pretty consistent scoring option (his percentages took a dive last year, but we could still count on him for at least 15-18 points even after his injury), and a leader. Now obviously these losses could be offset depending on who we got back, but using the proposed Deng for whatever pick and drafting Harrison Barnes, frankly I'm not sure if that's a good trade.

not trying to be a dick or anything, but it would help if you listed out some possible trades

ex.

deng for pierce

deng and assets for granger

etc.?

if you get a top 5 pick..i honestly think picking barnes there is a big risk..i'd take MKG who i honestly think has a better floor than barnes..in other words, i don't see MKG busting because he influences everything on the floor, has a great motor, is athletic, and plays exceptional defense

If it was a top 5 pick I'm not even remotely considering Barnes. MKG over Barnes is a no brainer to me. Barnes is probably going to be a mid to late lottery pick imo.

7-12 range imo...anything higher is bad...anything lower is not a bad pick

i honestly think barnes is overrated and if he stayed another year, he'd be even lower so...:shrug:

Yeah that pretty much fits my projection (lottery ends at 15 right...:shifty:). Barnes is pretty overrated from what I've seen. He's still got potential to be a player though for sure.

Amnestying Boozer is a stupid idea & the FO will never do that. Sure he's a less important piece overall than Deng, but he's STILL an important piece to this team.

I just don't get how people don't understand this. Amnestying Boozer does nothing to help the team. Let me repeat that. AMNESTYING BOOZER DOES NOTHING TO HELP THE TEAM. When we are already over the salary cap, even IF he is waived, it frees up ZERO, yes ZERO, cash for free agents. This isn't rocket science people. If you want to get rid of Boozer, you trade him. People need to quit pining for something that's absolutely never going to happen.

I would only trade Deng if we can package him with Noah or Boozer and a few draft picks to Orlando for Dwight Howard.

Trade him to New Orleans for the #1 pick & draft Anthony Davis. Then trade Boozer + Korver to whoever is going to be awful in 2014 and take Jabari Parker in the 2014 draft. Then we can have a 60% Chicago starting 5.

hmmmm....i know you're rosterbating here,and i don't want to shoot you down here, but i doubt NO will give up their #1 pick unless Chicago makes a really enticing offer...Cleveland made a pretty large offer earlier and got shot down

They're drafting Davis. The only real mystery is if Charlotte tries to move down to acquire more picks.

With the amount of dimwitted posts that litter this site, it's tough to tell if this is serious or not.

If it is serious, I really don't know what to say other than, to quote Hou, that's basketball Special person.
