Uptown baby!
Nice deal for Toews! And for Canadian Tire! I think they're gonna be a great fit for each other. Also, it's DAMN refreshing to NOT see a big NHL endorsement de facto go to f'ing Sidney Crosby for a change.

Toews and Canadian Tire make a perfect marriage

Friday, 08.20.2010 / 2:06 PM / News

By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Staff Writer

TORONTO -- Jonathan Toews' star has ascended so rapidly that at only 22 years old, the Winnipeg native not only is one of the faces of the new NHL, but he's also the face and spokesperson for a partnership between the League and the store that played a major role in making his childhood dream become a reality.

The NHL and Canadian Tire, Canada's leading retailer in hockey equipment, announced a five-year partnership agreement Friday while also introducing the Chicago Blackhawks' captain and Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the celebrity who will put his name, face and time into making what should be a long-lasting relationship even better.

Toews will be the spokesperson for the NHL and Canadian Tire's sponsorship agreement, but he'll also lead the charge for the newly formed Canadian Tire Hockey School, a first of its kind. The CTHS mainly will be an online resource for kids and their parents, but there also will be six CTHS camps that will focus on teaching kids the skills necessary to make it -- just like Toews' did out of his South St. Vital neighborhood.

I don't live in Canada. Why is it called "Canadian Tire" if it sells hockey equipment?

it started off as only a automotive store, but it expanded into other areas (espescially in the praries where it's one of the defacto places for hockey equipment). it's kinda like a poor man's walmart, but without the clothes or food, or pharmacy... basically there is nothing in the US that really compares to it, they sell all sorts of non automotive stuff there.

yeah, pretty much. I have fond memories of heading down to canadian tire for a new stick before the new hockey season stared. Most of m y equipment was used though, from hockey swap meets and hand me downs from my brother.

Definitely not a poor mans Walmart...

Maybe I'll be able to actually pick up some blackhawks stuff other than online? They'll probably have Toews Canadian Tire Jerseys.
