lol nebraska has always been subpar in academics

why do you think tom osborne hated when texas schools merged to make the big field? led to higher academic standards for players, therefore some of the not so smart players who were talented who usually got into nebraska, didnt anymore

well, there are other reasons osborne doesnt like texas..but thats just one lol

I love how they don't list criteria, just categories, then label them as their criteria.

I wouldn't try to pass this list off to anyone as accurate by any means, unless they published their actual criteria or sources to ranking each school.

i dont find the world rankings interesting or necessarily credible, mostly because they didnt,as others have said, establish concrete criteria for their rankings

but also because i'm just not interested or heck, know nothing about some of these schools that are listed from out of the country..i guess its good to find some kind of perspective on where colleges in the US rank worldwide

but

A. Because mainly my interest in these sorts of rankings is to see how some colleges im considering match up to others(my own perspective tho), i find it arbitrary to add in some of these world colleges that i am nowhere near considering nor have heard of.

B.Not to mention, its a bit easier to set a universal criteria for ranking colleges that are in the share a similar basis in culture, structure, content, etc.(not sure how much colleges in other countries differ from ones in the US, but i think its a reasonable assertion that colleges in the US are a bit closer to each other than they are to colleges in foreign countries
)

i was a little surprised to see U of Chicago above stanford and duke..but thats just me

It has nothing to do with athletics, but I would rank Stanford #1 right now, that doesn't mean that I would rank them #1 last year, or next year. But you see, I could use a different criteria all together, but I measure mine in diversity of curriculum. Now does that mean a student would benefit from this? No, the student could easily ignore everything, do the bare minimum, and party between classes. Harvard would not even be in my top 100! Talk about a pure hype school that pumps out insiders who learn how to exploit a broken system, and not aid and benefit the world. Of course, this is based merely on this year, and how I rank them now. To a lot of people, that would be a controversial statement, and I accept that opposition.

The bottom line is that you need to match yourself with your interests to best further yourself. For some schools, you will benefit more just because of a certain department. College isn't about education, as much as it is networking, so always go someplace that benefits your interests first. Stanford wouldn't benefit my interests #1, but it's up there for me. Cambridge would also be such a limited venture based on pure networking, and subpar educational diversity. I'm also glad to see Princeton dropping in many of these criteria-less ranks, that school is an absolute joke.

well i guess thats just your criteria...which is certainly not a bad basis at all

i do agree though...a good college should have diverse curriculum and appeal...or the school becomes more "narrow" in a sense and loses true value

also agree about college preference should be quite a bit dependent on "career field" interest and what schools support that interest in your perception(there are obviously alot of other factors to consider of course)..some prestigious schools like u of chicago or stanford may not be preferred because they do not excel in the field of interest while others may...just because a school is highly regarded and has high standards doesnt mean it may give a better education depending on the field of interest

although i think a good college also has to have a funding basis on research(in other words, the professors do a little more than teach, which rick perry never seemed to get through his head regarding some colleges)...as well as getting funding from alums..i think a high level of funding from alums indicates that the alums are relatively successful and thats a positive in reputation and in monetary value

anyway, i think princeton, harvard, and those kinds of school..atleast by my criteria..are very prestigious and high ranking schools despite their seemingly narrow curriculum because the curriculum they do teach is at a high level learned by high level students, not to mention many of those schools have alot of funding support from alum which ties in back to my previous paragraph

Chemistry, physics and math come to mind. As well as a pretty good biosci program.
