This season several members of the Chicago Bears organization face a make or break season. From the GM Jerry Angelo on down, if the Bears fail this season there will be changes. There are several key factors for the success or failure of the team:

1.) Julius Pepper – The athletic Defensive End was the crown jewel of the Bears off season. Peppers ability to constantly harass Quarterbacks will impact numerous levels of the Bears defense. If Peppers is able to draw a double team it will free up others on the D-line namely Defensive Tackle Tommie Harris, who has struggled the past few season from injuries and bad play. Peppers’ impact will also cover up some of the question marks in the Bears secondary.

2.) Jay Cutler – Before last season Cutler was viewed as an impact player at the Quarterback position. The impact Cutler had last season is not the one that the Bears expected. Cutler suffered through his worst season as a Pro. For the Bears offense to succeed Cutler will have to make better decisions with the Football. While his 27 touchdowns were impressive under the circumstances last season Cutler led the NFL with 26 interceptions. Simply put Cutler has to be better.

It hinges on the offensive line, in my opinion.

I'm nervous about our O-line because we haven't made any real changes to it.

No, we haven't, BUT we have a new O-line coach, the players have one more year of experience, and Omiyale will be playing his "natural" position, and they looked much improved in the last two games of last season, and ...

...Yeah, I'm pretty nervous about it, too!

I think we can have a good season but with how tough the NFC is currently, we will need to win 10+ just to have a shot at the wildcard let alone with the division.

I think the biggest statistic to watch this season is turnovers. Our offense needs to create less and our defense needs to force more. Do that, and I think the Bears will be okay.

Julius Peppers makes this defense work, without pressure from the front 4 any team can throw all over us with how weak our secondary is. Yes I know Daniel Manning and Charles Tillman are playing much better this season but still when opposing quarterbacks have time our defense cannot stop anyone.

Obviously the offensive line determines how well our offense performs, but that is the case for every team in the league. Without time or running lanes no team can succeed except for the Colts at times because Peyton Manning is not human.

Offensive Line is on there? Isn't Jay the most sacked QB in the entire NFL?

Anyway, Hester should be on there, so should a healthy Urlacher.

Agreed.

I would say Peppers has been the most instrumental in our success this season. He has defensive player of the year wrapped up I think.

Not so sure if I would go that far to call him DPOY but man the difference is amazing what happens when you add Julius Peppers, along with a healthy Urlacher and Briggs.

I don't disagree that Peppers should be in the conversation for the award but his numbers in terms of production will not get him enough votes. It is because he is double and sometimes triple teamed every time he is on the field but still he will not win the award.

Troy Polamalu should and I think will win the award. He is the catalyst for his defense just like Peppers is but also has the numbers to back him.

At the rate Peppers been lately, it seems like hes getting more interceptions than Troy lol. He may not have massive numbers to statistically back up the claim, but the man has been a beast this year.
