I would only do it if you can resign Gordon. What the point of acquiring West if you know you can't win championship with that talent

Because Rome wasn't built in a day. West is young enough that you have time to make follow up moves, it's not like the other proposal of trying to aquire Jamison from the Wizards where you have to win right now.

Ya, but the roster is shaped so perfectly that all you need is for Rose to develop, acquire all star pf, and another big man who is tough and physical. The thing is how are you going to improve within the sg position. You can't trade Deng so I am wondering who you will get. Thats why if you don't get Gordon then you need to get Bosh

David West is an all star power forward. He's 28, which is probably slightly older than we'd like, but still young enough to have a number of good years.

Right and his contract is excellent too. He is due 9 million this upcoming year and 8.3 the year after with a player option for a final year at 7.5 Mill. Much cheaper than Bosh or Amare.

If you can get a player like David West on the cheap you have to do it. He's clearly an upgrade at our worst position. He's not ideal in that's he's a similarly mediocre rebounder like Tyrus, so the vet big listed in the depth chart should probably be a rebounding specialist, but I don't think that should be too hard to find.

I think this sort of a trade is what we should be looking at, with the teams looking to cut costs our expiring are worth a lot at the moment, and it'd be a shame to just let them all expire without getting anything. Obviously you try to swing for the fences and get the 2010 big names first, but if that's not happening, David West is a very solid consolation prize.
He's not a mediocre rebounder. He just plays with very good rebounders like Chandler and Paul. I also wouldn't put 8.5 rpg as mediocre, he was the 15th best rebounder in the league this past year.

He played a ton of minutes to get those rebounds though. If you look at his rebounding rate, he's almost identical to Tyrus (though better defensive and worse offensive).

Well I can see your point in that but there is a reason those other guys don't get the same minutes. He is definitely a solid rebounder and he plays with two excellent rebounders in CP3 and Chandler. Plus guys like Amare and Bosh aren't really any better at rebounding.
