Sam Smith's latest blog entry discussed whether the Bulls should trade up and grab Duke's Gerald Henderson.

http://blogs.bulls.com/chicago_bulls_blog/2009/06/should-the-bulls-move-up-for-gerald-henderson.html

Smith even likened Henderson to Dwayne Wade, though I don't think he meant to imply he would be as good as Wade. Nonetheless, Sam Smith said he has talked to a number of scouts who believe that Henderson has star potential in the NBA.

Assume that the oft-discussed trade with Minnesota is still available - Hinrich + expirings for the number 6 pick and filler to make the salaries match. Do you guys make that deal? Also, do any of you with inside info (Doug) know if that trade is something the Bulls are still discussing internally?

I would make that deal in a heartbeat. I like Kirk a lot, but I see Henderson as a cheaper Hinrich. Even if he never becomes a star, at least you're getting a legit 6'5" defender. And if he develops a jump shot and becomes a really good player, then you have one heck of a backcourt for the next decade.

Henderson is tougher, more athletic, better ALL-AROUND defender, and prototypical player than Hinrich. Henderson jump-shot has decent arc. The only problem is his motor at times, it reminds me of a Larry Hughes, you know, that look of disinterest and not putting 100% in it all the time.

I wouldn't trade up for Henderson most likely.

He's an okay looking prospect. He seems like he could do what Ronnie Brewer does in the NBA though Brewer was considered a potential PG type in college which clearly is not true of Henderson.

I think Ronnie Brewer is floor, but still could be star. Thats not high possibility, but he has all of the talent in the world and just figured out how to do it. He needs to figured out how to use big side of the court as at the end of year people would favor him to the right. He needs to improve his catch and shoot ability, his pullup jumper is decent.

It's such a crapshoot......but Henderson does have some top notch athleticism. If he could match an outside game with that, hed be pretty good. If we move up, Id rather take Harden versus Henderson though.

Everyone has potential until they play in the NBA though. Realistically, Henderson is a one handed dribbler and a below average shooter. He's a junior in college. To expect him to learn how to dribble and shoot and then become a great player at the next level is a big stretch IMO.

There are many athletic prospects whom if they could only vastly improve their skill level would be great.

If I make this deal its to draft Demar Derozen, or turn that pick into an intising trade for Bosh or Amare

Henderson is not good enough to trade extra assets just to aquire him. I think he's a guy that will have a handful of nice highlight dunks, and fool people into thinking he's better than he actually is.

The Bulls should just let him go to the Bobcats.

If we're looking to get the no.6 from the Wolves, I'd prefer to take a gamble on DeRozan and I'm not even a huge fan of his, but at that spot you may as well take a gamble and he arguably has the most potential in the entire draft.

If we try to trade up to #6 I'd hope for James Harden or DeRozan or Jordan Hill to be there. I don't think Henderson will be that special.

Other than Grant Hill, Elton Brand, & Carlos Boozer, name me another former Dukie that became a NBA star. This is why I hate Duke. It's all about the system. The players on Duke almost always turn out to be system players. It's true they are generally more fundamentally sound, especially on the defensive end, but Duke does not generate stars. Period. Does Henderson have star potential? Sure. Lots of players do when they are drafted. He has unbelievable athleticism & is great in transition which would be a major asset to the Bulls. But he doesn't shoot or dribble that well. He gets alot of his points on cuts to the basket like another Dukie who's already in a Bulls uni.

If we trade up, it should be to nabbed someone like Harden, DeRozan, or Hill. I would even take Evans over Henderson.
