According to multiple reports from college hockey reporters, 2010 1st round selection Kevin Hayes will not be signing with the Hawks and will become a free agent.

Could be a side effect of the logjam of prospects in the Hawks organization, especially at forward.

Apparently there was "friction" over the trade of Kevin's brother, Jimmy.

Wow, talk about biting the hand that drafted you both.

And on the other side, how the hell do you trade the brother of an unsigned prospect anyway? why?
He must have heard about the logjam firsthand from associates of brother trying to crack up, morin/pirri/nordstrum....

I don't know but mad whether he busts or not at the pettiness of this move. idiot

Is there anything new?

There was a tweet a month ago claiming this was the case but nothing much was actually connected to Kayes.

It was also rumored constantly that Johns wasn't going to sign

Seems legit from Twitter, but I don't know if there's but an official confirmation from the Hawks. According to what I'm seeing, he wouldn't become a UFA until August 15th, so maybe there's time for a change of heart. Hawks still own his rights until then, so he could also be trade bait.

Kudos to Scott Powers from ESPN Chicago for tracking down Hayes' agent and getting some quotes together for a story:

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blackhawks/post/_/id/4682279/agent-prospect-hayes-weighs-signing

You should read the whole thing (not too long), but here's the money quote, IMO
“Because Boston College’s season ended so late, there’s no urgency to make a decision right away,” Hayes’ agent Robert Murray said in a phone interview Tuesday. “We just decided to sit back and take our time. When Kevin gets back from the World’s, we’ll kind of follow up.

“There’s no decision made on any of that right now. There’s no decision that he’s not going to sign with Chicago. I’ve tried to stress that with Chicago. That’s not the intent -- because he hasn’t signed yet, [he won’t sign ever.] That’s not the case.”

His loss - he was not ever going to crack the lineup. He can have all the 'friction' that he wants -whatever... lol. Some guys and their egos... :D

Well, don't be so sure that he's not signing with the team just yet.

I'm not- all I am saying is that if a Hates is or is not on the roster is not really relevant to my enjoyment of the team. I can understand why he would want to become a ufa -and that is all about roster numbers and open slots.

I don't think he has a serious shot at cracking the lineup any time soon. -Because of that, I could see him deciding that his future might be elsewhere with a little shallower roster at wing.

would be prudent before making a big decision like that. He needs to understand what playing for the best team at the highest level would be like, the pinnacle that plenty of NHL veterans would kill for a chance in Chicago. We have fun as an organization and fan base. The viewership numbers speak for themselves. NHL has the top 3 biggest cites and the Canadiens alive this year....gotta be killing the ratings game with the NBA replay series happening and the god damn fucking Lebron situation.
