Thus...Taylor is the Brown's "Glennon."

A couple of "tea-reading" aspects to this, assuming the Browns are in fact doing a rent-a-QB thing like the Bears did with Glennon:

1] Pace was already targeting Trubisky when he signed Glennon. The plan to give Trubisky a year holding a clipboard, due to his lack of readiness to step right in, was based on the supposedly competent Glennon playing the rent-a-QB role for the full year. Assuming the Browns already know who they want (like Pace already knew last year...), bringing in Taylor for a year suggests they're similarly not expecting their guy to play this year. Which sort of points to Darnold or Allen as their guy. If the Browns were targeting one of the more ready-to-play guys (Rosen or Mayfield), why waste the $15M and the draft choice when a Josh McCown type could start the first few games before turning things over to the rookie?

2] The Browns were thought to be strongly interested in getting Trubisky last year, and were rumored to be the team negotiating with Pace for the #3 pick. Maybe they outsmarted themselves last year by thinking they could get both Garrett & Trubisky, and as a result lost out on what they felt could be their franchise QB. This could be a learn-from-your-mistakes type of thing and they're going to be damn sure to get their franchise QB this year, with a plan (Taylor) to bring the new guy along slowly.

Just speculating...

Yup. This isn't about championships but the new GM is going for instant respectability as opposed to building for a SB and I don't blame him. Unless they get into a position for the 1st 2 picks in the draft, I now suspect they may take Barkley 1st and a QB after to further this process.
You think they would really risk losing the franchise QB they want by skipping #1 (taking Barkley) and waiting for pick #4?

Especially after last year, where teams were jumping up to grab their QB. Rumors are the Browns failed to get the QB they wanted, hated Kizer so much they just traded him away!

Na... even if the GM was somehow unsure about which QB he wanted, is he really going to look like he was unsure by waiting for Pick #4?

I'm confident they get their QB Pick #1, who maybe a QB they feel needs a year prep, and be happy to grab next top guy at Pick 4.

Yep. Getting the QB position right is the #1 top priority for every NFL team. Barkley's going to be a hell of a RB, but not worth risking getting stuck with your second or third choice to be your franchise QB. If the Browns want Barkley that badly, they need to trade up from #4 to #2, which they certainly have the draft capital to do. But above all else, they need to be sure they'll get the first QB off the boards...

Yep, Browns are taking a QB at #1 this isn't sashi brown running the show anymore. they very well could choose Ward over Fitz at #4 too.

It depends on who they want. If they want Mayfield, I think they'd be safe at #4. Otherwise, they would be making a mistake.

and then some team trades up with Indy and selects him. not a wise move.

They are taking Barkley at #1 QB at #4

If they take Barkley at #1, then they obviously don't have any conviction on a QB and might possibly trade down from #4. It doesn't make very much sense to just wait and see if the 2nd or 3rd QB is available at #4. You see a QB you like and you take him, simple as that.
