nope. tyrus isn't starting because of the multitude of reasons a. he deserves it, b. it gives both players what they want. c. it gives us more rebounding/blocked shots.

it's because taj is injured. what the crap. really? really? that's the reason tyrus is starting. i'm not a tyrus fan, but tyrus should start. taj wants to come off the bench, let the kid. god-dammit vinny.

The Bulls might move forward Tyrus Thomas into the starting lineup as rookie Taj Gibson battles a foot injury.

Chicago disclosed on Tuesday that Gibson has been battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot for much of this season.

"He's feeling better, but the plantar fasciitis has bothered him and he needs some treatment," coach Vinny Del Negro said of Gibson. "He just really irritated it the other night in a game."

Thomas would reclaim the starting power forward spot if Gibson can't go on Thursday night against the Celtics.

He lost the spot when he injured his forearm and Gibson's strong play kept Thomas from regaining it upon his return.

"Tyrus played well (Monday against the Pistons) and had a good practice (Tuesday) too," Del Negro said. "He was under control. I loved his activity."

In all honesty, Tyrus is still better than Taj (though give Taj credit for playing well). But come on Vinny, Taj WANTS to come off the bench and Tyrus WANTS to start. Clearly, if you know how to keep players happy, this will benefit everyone. Tyrus may never be seen in a Bulls uni again, but for crying out loud he can still play in a starting role.

Dear god, dont get me wrong, i love taj. i like him playing on the floor. i dont want him to be a bench player. It's just taj played ridiculously well off the bench. He likes playing off the bench. let him do it.

Lately Taj has been outplaying Tyrus, it's hard to put Tyrus in the starting lineup over Taj after their recent play. I think people look at Tyrus' good games and forget all his bad ones.

Besides, Taj will be here next year, Tyrus probably wont. I have no problem with wanting to put minutes into a longer term prospect (provided he's showing improvement from it, which Taj has been).

Guys, you are looking at this the wrong way. Vinny finally gets what? Tyrus is Tyrus...period...he thinks he is better than Vinny thinks he is. I agree with Vinny. Taj plays where he is told to play. Frankly, its disheartening to hear a rookie long to come off the bench. He should want to start...more importantly...he should do what he is told...Tyrus starting fixes nothing...

Well from my point of view, it doesn't matter who starts, it matters who finishes. If Taj is the better of the two, Taj is playing down the stretch. This is why even though Hinrich and Miller came off the bench last year, they were playing down the stretch (mostly from what I can remember they played a Rose, Gordon, Hinrich, Salmons, and Miller lineup a lot).

Its very simple. When Tyrus plays within himself & sticks to the things he does best, he's a difference maker out there. It's when he starts jacking up terrible shots, hanging on the perimeter, & trying to lead fastbreaks that gets him into trouble. Stick to attacking the glass on both ends of the court & he will make a difference out there.

I understand that...you can say that about everybody in the rotation...why should he start though? And how is Vinny wrong if he doesn't start him?

I don't think Vinny is wrong not starting him. In fact I'd rather have Taj starting, which I've said on mutiple occassions. I can't stand Tyrus at all. He frustrates the hell out of me. I do find it odd that Taj says he'd rather come off the bench. Some of that is probably due to injury & some of it as to not wanting to rock the boat being that he's a rook.

Taj reminds me alot of PJ Brown. Good defender & rebounder who can knock down the 15 footer. He's not going to awe with amazing dunks or blocks but he will always be out there hustling & putting himself in the best position to help the team succeed. He's already carved out a place in this league for years to come & he's only a rookie. No one has any idea what type of a player Tyrus really is or what he'll become. In my mind he's pretty close to becoming Stromile Swift part deux or Hakim Warrick at best.

He's already in his rookie year scoring at a better rate than PJ ever did. If you want to compare him to an ex-Bull, Antonio Davis is probably closer.

I would say that but AD was a friggin' beast. Taj is more of the lanky, pesky player that Brown was than the Bulldog that AD was.
