Lots of guys dont like the media. Tyrus is smart though, when an athlete speaks to the media their comments are always spinned in a different way to make them look bad.

It's nice to see Tyrus getting some love from the organization. Hoipefully this kind of thing means Reinsdorf likes the kid and won't give him the ben Gordon contract treatment.

Ehh.. I don't know, I think there are guys looking to play the negative angle, but generally if you make yourself available to the media consistently then they'll protect you more than hurt you.

True Doug however I think Tyrus never got over the free money comment and how the media ran with it.

Or when he started attacking DraftExpress at the Pre-Draft Camp.

Joseph Treutlein How have you been preparing for the draft so far?

Tyrus Thomas Just working out, improving my skills; shooting, dribbling, fundamentals.

Joseph Treutlein You mentioned a lot of skills, is there anything in particular you're working on?

Tyrus Thomas I'm working on everything I'm saying. My weakness is not being perfect.

Joseph Treutlein Is there anything to your game you can offer that we haven't seen at LSU?

Tyrus Thomas I have a lot to offer. You know, you guys like to say that I can't dribble and I can't shoot. That all I can do is dunk and block shots, but that's what was required of me for the team to win, and that's what I did. I could've easily played outside of the system, shot the ball and put the ball on the floor, but we were winning with what we were doing so that's what you stick to.

Joseph Treutlein We understand that, because a lot of times you don't get to fully feature what you can do in college, because of your role, you didn't get to show off some of that ball-handling and shooting.

Tyrus Thomas I let you guys tell it, especially DraftExpress, that I can't do it.

Joseph Treutlein Have you worked out for any teams so far?

Tyrus Thomas I worked out for Portland and Toronto.

Joseph Treutlein How do you think those went?

Tyrus Thomas I think they went well, you know.

Joseph Treutlein Did you work out competitively against anyone there?

Tyrus Thomas No, by myself.

Joseph Treutlein Are you planning to workout competitively against anyone?

Tyrus Thomas No.

Joseph Treutlein Why is that?

Tyrus Thomas I don't feel it's necessary. You know, the teams know what they're going to do. I feel like teams kind of know what they're going to do once the balls come out anyway, you know. So, it's kind of unnecessary for me.

Joseph Treutlein Where do you think you'll be drafted?

Tyrus Thomas I'm not sure, I can't answer that. Where do you think I'll be drafted?

Joseph Treutlein I'm not sure either, you'd have to ask the teams.

Tyrus Thomas I mean, you guys write it, you guys say where we fit best, so you tell me.

Joseph Treutlein I'm not sure, it's hard to say, you'd have to be inside the team's perspective to know that for sure.

Tyrus Thomas Then why do you guys write stuff like that?

Joseph Treutlein I personally didn't write anything in particular.

Tyrus Thomas I'm just saying, you... don't regard this.

Joseph Treutlein If I'm a GM, why should I pick Tyrus Thomas? Sell me on you.

Tyrus Thomas You're not a GM, I don't have to sell myself to you. I mean, I don't know, just watch. GM's watch the game, so there's not much a player has to tell a GM. Because GM's have experience watching what a player is capable of doing and what he's not capable of doing, so I don't have to verbally sell myself to a GM.

i think this is partly great to see, and i think tyrus has for sure grown up since then

although ben gordon is a finalist for the Thorpe award i think it is called, which is basically the league version of this. it seems kinda cold towards gordon that he can't even win his team's award.

I think it is because this is for the Chicago community. Gordon splits his work between Chicago and Mount Vernon. Gordon has such a large body of work in Mount Vernon, that that is probably the main reason why he is being considered for the league award and not the Bulls own.

I do agree that the Bulls have been cold towards Gordon. I want to see the Bulls make Gordon the Bulls Player of the Year this year. In 05-06, it was Nocioni, which makes some sense, Nocioni was pretty important that year.. In 06-07, when it should have been Gordon, they gave the award to the entire team. In 07-08, when it should have been Gordon, they gave it to Joakim Noah. (No offense to Noah, his play was good down the stretch last year, but Gordon was clearly better). He's been the best Bull for the entire year again this year. Hopefully they do the right thing this year, and give him the award.

I have a suspicion that they will give it to Rose though, even though Gordon has been better. I really hope they do give it to Gordon, because he deserves it. Whenever Rose arrives as a superstar, he will win like 10 straight of these Bulls Player of the year awards, so he won't be missing out on anything by Gordon getting it this year.

The Bulls will give it to Rose, likely because of BG's contract situation. Like it or not, I doubt the Bulls want to deal with (from a PR standpoint) losing their "player of the year" for nothing, regardless of how much the award actually means.

Tyrus is a great guy. He loves talking with kids. Always asks them how school was, what they do for activities, etc...

When talking to adults, Tyrus doesn't seem interested and tends to give one word answers.

I kinda like the fact that Tyrus is surly with the media. It doesn't make him a great leader or anything, but it always makes him a great story. It makes him seem like a badass, kind of a rebel without a cause.

We can hope that Rose will be the politically correct leader of the team and Tyrus will provide the counterpoint in the media.

I don't know anything about the guy who was doing this interview, but I do go to school for journalism (for now), and a lot of these kids are unbearable and weaselly. And this is supposed to be half of the cream of the crop (with the other half over at Northwestern). So it wouldn't shock me one bit if there was a reason for Thomas to legitimately be irked with a journalist. We only ever saw a text transcript of that DX interview, we never heard the audio or saw video of how the journalist was approaching Tyrus.

So with just the text, you can't really judge this situation all that much. The writer could have done a better job responding to Thomas' questions than folding like a chair.
