This is an unconfirmed rumor that I found, but it's really interesting.

Cubs get:
Carlos Lee

Astros get:
Kosuke Fukudome
Carlos Silva
John Grabow

If true, I would do it. Carlos Lee will play 1B. I know he had a down year but I would take the chance on a comeback year, He also hits at Wrigley. The Cubs would get the 1B solve without spending and more moves could come. The OF would be less crowded. This leaves a SP-RP open in place of Silva. Another kid could make the team. Also, this leaves a RP spot open for another young kid or a RP FA signing.

Thoughts?

Also, I think money or spects will come the Cubs way. Most likely money. And, if this deal were to happen, that would be the case.

I would do it, but he's not my 1st choice for sure. Just go out and trade for James Loney who would be awesome in Cubbie Blue. He's cheap and won't cost much.

Waldo, just because someone links you to their blog doesn't mean you have to post it.

Its very unconfirmed and very unreal.

Fine...we'll put it up for discussion. Would you do this or not? Just an idea.

Lee sucked last year. You know, it's not a requirement to have someone with the last name of Lee play 1st base.

I've seen that exact post made all over the web. Go with Loney in my opinion.

Loney? You mean the guy who can't slug his way out of a paper bag? No thanks. I'll take the Big Donkey.

No one has linked me to their blog...

Sure they did. It came from here, and at the bottom right it says Waldo's Site.

Fine...we'll put it up for discussion. Would you do this or not? Just an idea.

Now would I do it. Well.

Silva has 8 million left on his contract. (We owe him 6 for next year plus the 2M buyout for 2012)
Fukudome has 13.5 left
Grabow has 4.8

Carlos Lee has 37 (18.5 each year) So we are actually taking on payroll especially for 2012, where as all three of our players would be gone for 2012. So we would lower our payroll by 7.8 for 2011, but up it by 10.7 over both years.

I would say no on that fact alone. Lee has been awful the last two years.

Forget power. He will hit for a OK average, a clutch hitter and plays good defense. Also, he still does have limited power and that will go up at Wrigley.

Why would you want James Loney?

Loney is pretty fucking awful.

I don't think so. He's a better option that Dunn in my opinion with everything considered. I like Loney.

I ll just disect your other statement.

Forget power. He will hit for a OK average, a clutch hitter and plays good defense. Also, he still does have limited power and that will go up at Wrigley.

Yeah he will hit for a better average, but its not like its Ichiro or anything. He only has a .288 average for his career. Surprisingly that's only 28 points higher than what Dunn was this year and only 21 points better than he hit in 2009. So for every 500 AB's Loney gets a base hit only 11 more times than Dunn. Eleven. Thats it.

For his career Loney has a negative clutch rating. So no he isn't clutch.

Loney isn't a bad fielder, but it's still not great. He has been jsut barely above average the last two years. That's not going to make up for the 40 points in OBP and the 100 points in slugging Dunn gives you over Loney.

Sure Loney would hit better at Wrigley than he would at Dodger stadium. His away numbers have been pretty good, but still not great, and have been down a bit the last two years.

Loney isn't as awful as I thought, but he still isn't Dunn. Not even close.

If the Cubs are going to pay Dunn which I don't see happening, give up 2 mid spects for Loney. That's all I'm saying.

Like IF or OF spects...the Cubs have a lot and some won't be needed.

I found it on a webpage on the inet.
