With Schierholtz, the Cubs have committed $90.05MM to nine free agents. They have also agreed to sign Kyuji Fujikawa, Scott Feldman, Scott Baker, Dioner Navarro, Shawn Camp, Ian Stewart, Carlos Villanueva and Edwin Jackson.

I really wish that Soriano/Domonic Brown swap would come to fruition. I still think a fringe contender who's had a quiet off-season might get desperate after the new year rolls in and inquires about him.

I think they probably let Villanueva start a few times and put Wood in the bullpen due to the need to showboat Villanueva for trades and the fact that Wood is still pre-arbitration as far as I can tell. If Villanueva sucks then they'll just switch spots, or every other starter moves up a notch. That will probably be figured out as the scouts check out the dudes' mechanics in spring training.
