I understand why he might want him there because A.J. is a smart baserunner, but I'd rather have a guy like De Aza or Viciedo hitting in front of Paulie.

You know what I want AJ to do? Successfuly transfer the damn ball from his glove to his hand so he can at least try to throw someone out at 2nd.

True, but the problem with that is that no one on the Sox has a high enough OBP except for Paulie, Fukudome (if you think he'll rebound after last year), and De Aza (but only in limited at-bats and really is an unknown).

Dunn if he rebounds has OBP written all over his fat ass, but (no pun intended) he's best as a cleanup hitter anyway.

I like him there only because nobody else can do much better. If Beckham or Morel start having good seasons, I'd move one of them up instead though.

AJ is a smart hitter. The article in the Trib on Sunday spelled it out pretty well I think

I remember last season, besides Paulie and a healthy CQ, AJ was the only one with his head on straight at the plate. He never tries to do too much, and makes conact more ften than not.

Should be interesting. After last season I'm pretty much open to anything, lol.

Obviously your #2 hitter should have a solid OBP.

Here are the candidates regular OBP, and their OBP when batting second in parenthesis:

Alexei Ramirez: .323 (.337)
Beckham .318 (.308)
AJ .324 (.296)
Morel .285 (.275)
Rios .323 (.364)
Fukudome .361 (.348)

Looks like Rios or Fukudome should be the guys to bat second.

Between Rios and Fukodome, I'd take him until Rios proves he can get on base and make contact consistently.

Perhaps, but I don't want him batting behind PK. Ever. They have to protect Paulie.
