As many of you have heard, violence in Chicago is getting a bit crazy. Every weekend there's a pretty big amount of killings in Chicago. The temp is heating up and so is the gun play, it's getting ridiculous. On Tuesday (July 3rd), there were a reported 12 shootings before the 5 P.M. hour in Chicago... It's getting sad at this point.

Thoughts?

Even back in the 80s, shit was getting ridiculous. Harrison Park was being fought over and the Bar my Mom bartended at witnessed the violence when a kid was shot and killed. In 93 I went back for summer vacation and at 3-4am I could hear distant gun shots echo. :smh: 'Gangs' today are pussies. Go back to fist fighting, not laying in a car with an automatic and killing innocent people because your to much of a pussy to actually fight. And pull up your fucking pants you fucking incompetent morons!

Yeah, it's nuts. The blame game is going around too, but apparently there are some crooked cops tied in with some gangs, triggering an apeshit turf war.

The only problem here is lack of proper firearms training. With better education, they'll avoid hitting innocents and then everyone will go back to not caring.

Crime/violence usually gets worse in Chicago when it gets warm/hot out. Last summer there was a rash of violence as well. Even during spring time. I think like 20 people were shot within 2 days last year. few years ago [3-4?] around 30-40 people were shot over 2 days.

edit: It seems like there's more this summer though.

Every time I visit Chicago I say "man I wish I could live here". Everytime I go to ChicagoTribune.com I say "man I'm glad i don't live there".

That's such a shame too. Nearly all of these shootings happen in bad neighborhoods. My cousin lives in the suburbs, and when we were younger, he was afraid to come to my house 'cause he thought he'd get shot. I don't even live in a bad area. but because I live in Chicago, he thought I lived in the ghetto. :obama:

Of course there is a lot of violence in Chicago, there is a lot of people there. Its probably the same % as in New York, Toledo, Kansas City, Minneapolis, etc. It just seems larger because there is a higher population.

It's measured in ratio to population. There is actually a ridiculous spike in violence here right now, mainly in ganglands.

Got gas last saturday and some idiot literally had his pants at the thighs with his ass hanging out, and T-Shirt rolled up to his neck cause he had a tattoo across the chest, so yeah, a fucking moron Kentucky 'gangbanger' wannabe. God how I wish I could send em up to Chicago for a visit :)

Not shocked. But does anyone ever really go there anyway?

The problem is in the daytime, you simply don't know. It doesn't look exactly like a scene from Friday. You have to live IN the city to really get it. If you're from the burbs, and you just visit town, you'll take one turn(because it's a grid) and everything looks normal. Behind the chain linked fence, theres 4 kids looking to make a buck off a stranger.

Because the cops are tangled up with the gangs. A lot of cops are crooked in some spots, and they side with their buddies. They have their guys on the "inside", which is where the CPD is at some stalemate(one side wants manpower, the other side wants a total force evaluation and cleanup). Neither are going to be good solutions.

In a city as crooked as Chicago, is it a surprise that violence is so high? Not to me.
