“I want to be there next year,” said Vitters, who is currently getting more at-bats by playing for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League. “This is my new goal. I want to make it there at some point next year. Whether it be the halfway point or in September, I want to be there next year.”

In a move that could help his acceleration, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Vitters has been playing first base as well as third for Mesa. Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez is signed through 2011, but Vitters needs to regain the production he displayed in 2009, when he hit .284 with 18 home runs at the Class A level

Thoughts? I wish he would be able to, but I don't see it...unless he puts up monster numbers and/or Ramirez gets hurt AGAIN or the 1B the Cubs sign gets hurt.

Doubt it. But with a new 1B and Ramirez, and Colvin, Jackson (probably by then), Castro, and DeWitt up, it would be really hard to fit him in. If he comes up, our 1B must be doing pretty bad. If it's September, then maybe.

Nobody, we will play with 2 3B's an SS and a 2B, an exaggerated shift.

He won't. He needs a lot of work on his plate discipline and he needs to walk more consistently.
