Bears vs Lions Notes
o) The Bears beat the Lions earlier this year in a low scoring affair 13-7 on Monday Night Football. Charles Tillman shut down Calvin Johnson and Jay Cutler survived a vicious hit.

o) The Bears need to win to stay alive in the playoffs. But they need help. The Minnesota Vikings need to lose to the Packers, who themselves are trying to secure the #2 seed, in order to make the playoffs.

o) A bit of history: The Bears were in this position in 2008 sitting at 9-6, needing a win to get into the playoffs. If they win and the Vikings lost they would win the division and have the 3rd seed, if they won and the Vikings won, Buccaneers lost, Cowboys lost the Bears would get in as the #6 seed. The Vikings ended up winning, the Bucs ended up losing, the Cowboys ended up losing, but they Bears simply couldnt not take care of their own business as Houston had their way with the Bears defense and the Bears ended up in a 31-24 defeat that ended their playoff hopes. The Bears were without starting free safety Mike Brown for the game as he had pulled his hamstring the week before.

The Bears are in a similar situation in 2012 needing a win to get into the playoffs. This time all they need to do is win and have the Vikings lose. The Bears will be without safety Chris Conte and Linebacker Brian Urlacher. The offense is pitiful, but this teams defense is better than the 08 team. There are alot of similarities going into this game compared to the 08 game, so it will be interesting to see what unfolds here. Will history repeat?

Brian Urlacher (LB) - Out [Hamstring]

Henry Melton (DT) - Questionable [Chest]
Matt Forte (RB) - Questionable [Ankle]
Tim Jennings (CB) - Probable [Shoulder]

Lions:

Sammie Hill (DT) - Questionable [Toe]
Brandon Pettigrew (TE) - Questionable [Ankle]
Chris Houston (CB) - Probable [Hamstring]
Calvin Johnson (WR) - Probable [Knee/Ankle]

The Bears have been able to handle bad teams and Detroit is a bad team. That said, the sheer number of injuries has gotten out of hand and the trash talking has given the kitties a reason to care. Bears 23-20.

I hope the refs call a couple of personal fowls early in the first quarter to send a message that nutting, leg-whipping, decapitating, or otherwise maiming our qb will not be tolerated.

I just noticed a stat that seems shocking.. Matthew Stafford has 1 less passing TD than Cutler... While Stafford has 4 rushing ones; that stat line still just makes me think more than anything else that the Bears will win this one by 10 points and become scoreboard watchers.

Comeon Dr Gonzo....Surely your are aware that every teams directive is to get to Cutler....Suh has had (1) personal foul all year, so he should be able to rack up a couple this game .....lol J/K.... Bad Team ?...no good team #2 off , #13 defense....injuries have taken a toll ....our secondary and D-line are playin with guys they signed off the street, and now comes word that Sammie Hill won't play....I think the Lions are sittin everyone , which is paramount to givin you guys strokes in golf.....lol . If the Lions do beat you with the players they have left....time for the Bears to blow it up and start over... :)

The Bears should win this game and if they don't it won't be because Detriot is better it will be because the Bears will beat themselves or give the game away.

If the Bears don't win, it's because they aren't prepared, and that would lie directly on the coaches.

Since NFC North was formed in 2002, #Lions are 14-51 in division play. That is a cool .215 winning percentage. Or a .785 losing percentage.

Or because they're starting a third string safety.

Bullshit, one player isn't making that much of a difference in this game.

If the Bears get passed all over, you may change your tune. If the DL gets pressure, then it shouldn't matter who plays safety. Of course the game will come down to if the offense can score more than 14 points or not providing the defense doesnt score.

This is what I was kind of saying. If the d-line gets pressure, like they should, then that safety position won't matter that much. And if the d-line doesn't get to the QB, I'm gonna assume it's because the players weren't properly prepared, not because they are of better talent in the trenches.
