My favorite teams
Well wasn’t that just a kick in the nut-sack, eh? No reason to really go into it, except to say another chance at that first win of the season on a nationally televised game. What’s more is that it comes against the hapless Seattle Seahawks. Pretty nice timing to face a team whose head coach “just has questions” with how Building 7 came down.
I’ve been thinking about how we can keep this fresh, and I think it has to do with home games. Not sure it makes much sense to talk about Seattle, when the game is at home. So instead, let’s do some Chicago History. So let’s talk about River North, or the community that it resides in: the Near North Side. I know one of the first things I think of when I think Near North Side, is Second City.
The name Second City itself comes from the title of an article of the same name that appeared in The New Yorker in 1952. It started between two University of Chicago students named Bernard Sahlins and Paul Sills. They called themselves the Compass Players at first, but officially became Second City in 1959 when they moved to their location on Wells Street. Second City alum became the main staple for the cast of Saturday Night Live and SCTV, the former being the Toronto based off-shoot.
A second Second City opened in 1972 in Toronto, and the reins of both the Chicago and Toronto theater houses were taken over officially in 1974 by Andrew Alexander and Len Stuart. As of 2014, Second City has been awarded 37 Equity Joseph Jefferson Awards, 10 Canadian Comedy Awards. They have put out six feature length movies, the aforementioned SCTV, as well as countless recordings that can be found on compact discs (CDs), vinyl, and 8-track.
Alumni of the Chicago Mainstage include: Mina Kolb, Joyce Sloane, Anthony Holland, Dennis Cunningham, Ira Miller, Mindy Bell, Kevin Crowley, Ruby Streak, and some others that never really amounted to much.
Food: Farmhouse 228W Chicago Ave. A great farm to table restaurant who specialize in locally sourced, and sustainable ingredients. A constantly changing menu, but I would suggest any entrée that has lamb or pork, as these two meats are quality every time I’ve gone.
Beer: Off Color Brewing 1460 N Kingsbury. Opened by two alums of the older brewing school in the United States, these two lifelong Chicago guys use smart ingredients and good systems to make some of the best beer in the city. I’m particularly partial to Tooth & Claw, Troublesome, and bare bear. All that said, if you ever find yourself near some Dino Smores, or any of its variants, get yourself a snifter and go to town. One of my all time favorite stouts.

Good morning and TIA in advance for your enjoyment and appreciation of this week’s installment of the ongoing series of Biggest Bears Baffoon of the Week. In this week’s podcast I gave you a glimpse of this week’s Baffoon prediction but for any of you who may not have logged on or downloaded for a listen, the reveal is now! Biggest Bear Baffoon for Monday will likely perhaps maybe quite possibly be: Dieon Simms. The bears TE was retained in the off season for his diverse skills sets of blocking and being a veteran TE without major injury history, literally s#!t into his bed last week when he failed at catching and running and getting a key first down. He will have a 2peat of this on Monday night I predict, and it will hopefully not cause the Bears to lose again but who knows? Not this guy, I literally do not have a crystal ballor have access to one and literally wouldn’t be able to use it anyways because that’s witchcraft and it defies my religious principals. But I can say that Simms should have been cut by RYAN PACE and that he will prove it again this Monday night.

The Game: I said it last week, I’ll say it again: it’s put up or shut up time for Mitch. He, even more than Khalil Mack, could have had this town eating out of the palm of his hand. Do you know how thirsty Bears fans are for even slightly above average QB play? STOP BABYING HIM. He’s not a kid. He’s an NFL player, who happens to play the most important position in all of sports.
Ever the optimist though, I still like the Bears chances this game. In fact, I see this as a game that can get out of hand early. I think I heard the other day that there are only two holdovers on the Seahawks defense from a year ago. Not to mention that offensive line is putrid. Like five JaMarcus Webbs putrid. Bears big this week: 37-10.
Offensive Player of the Game: Jordan Howard
A nasty pill to swallow for Matt Nagy in his first regular season game gets rectified this week with a healthy dose of Jordan Howard. The number he wears on his chest should be the number of carries he sees this coming Monday night. I’m calling for a big game, A BIG GAME. Think 200 yards whether on the ground or through the air and 2 TDs.
Defensive Player of the Game: Eddie Goldman
I simply will never be able to understand why it seems like I’m the only guy that talks about Eddie Goldman. Expect a big push in the middle from this mountain of a man. He will keep Danny T and Roquan clean and making tackles.
