AAA is thin at catcher now, need to promote Caratini.

Great move. Montero's back is screwed and he's really, really struggling. Contreras is absolutely obliterating AAA pitchers. All our chips are in right now.

Says everything:

From a defensive standpoint, Contreras has halted 31 percent of attempted stolen bases against him this season. Baseball Prospectus graded his pitch-framing efforts as below average in both 2015 and 2016, although considering the fact that catching is still relatively new to Contreras, it’s perhaps not surprising that there’s still some room for refinement in the intricacies of working behind the dish. Certainly, sharing a dugout with Montero and Ross — two of the game’s better framing catchers — could prove beneficial to Contreras in the long run.

Nice to see him uo but seriously, how much is he going to actually play..

Unless Montero going on DL or taking the back seat here, what are we talking maybe a start every 10 games and some late innings opportunities. ...

If the kid is going to basically sit on bench as no.3 and watch and learn, he might end up not doing much because of inactivity.

They will have him hit. I see him pairing up with Hendricks and/or Hammel. Also as main guy vs LHSP.

Arretta and Lester will get the vets. Lackey not sure if he cares. Hendricks doubt he gets preference. Hammel wanted to pair with Schwarber due to his O. Guessing he would be fine as long as Conteras hits

There's talk that Ross is concussed and won't be available for a few days. Club has not confirmed.

This is being discussed in the prospect thread but I know not everyone participates there. Can't wait to see this kid. He's been tearing up AAA with a .353/.442/.593 slash. The goal is for him to be mentored by Ross and Montero and be the 3rd catcher. Nice bat off the bench too. Waves and waves...

It would be nice to get him some playing time or at least some time around David Ross because the guy obviously knows so much about his position.

This is great news!!! I like the idea of getting these guys like Almora and Contreras up to the bigs because that's where they are going to learn and where they can do something to help win a championship which is all anyone cares about. The guy is obviously ready and if he hits in a PH role, Maddon will start him. Almora has already been a huge contributor during the Phillies and Nationals series where he drove in the winning run and scored the go ahead run against the Nationals in consecutive days. That's why we have a farm system. To act as a feeder to the bigs where they can help us win...And the guy can play the infield too since he's a converted third baseman. I love how the players on this team can legitimately play multiple positions. Its gives Maddon so many options. I'll be most managers wished they had his "problems".:)

I just hope he plays a fair amount of games. .

How cool will it be if he holds his own and hits and this team offensively as young as it is tears up the NL.

Only thing that might be a concern if indeed the plan is for him to catch Hammel and or Hendricks, is if the success their having has alot to do with comfort of having Ross/Montero behind the plate...

He's got nothing left to prove in Iowa. I can see the reason for this, just like I was the only one saying Schwarber would eventually play a part last year. Time to learn about the "bigs"...what better way to learn than from Ross and Montero. Even if he doesn't play a lot, this will serve him well...and if he hits big time like Schwarber did, Maddon will find him some playing time.

Its going to be a great summer!! :) The Cubs are already tearing up opposing pitching. With another big bat they get even better and badder.

This is cool and seems kinda out of nowhere, but whatever.

How/when did Ross get concussed? Did Rondon punch him after blowing another save?

Wonder when we may call up some new pitchers? I don't know how well or not well anyone in Iowa or AA is doing, but what about CJ Edwards or even Armando Rivero?

Been wondering about the pitchers myself..

Youd think theyd wanna oust Richards ASAP
Grimm and Warren are kinda on the fench

Makes you wonder if they feel noone ready or if their going to make a deal soon

Probably when he took that foul ball right off his helmet in extra innings yesterday. Don't you guys remember that play. It was brutal. He took a full on foul ball right to his helmet. I thought "that must have HURT!!"

Yeah and the sooner we send Richards out for assignment the better...

Noticed Contreras played some 3B
Wonder if he will get some PT at third, with Bryant playing LF
When Arrieta and Lester on mound

He has played a total of 8 games at third in 4 years. Highly doubtful they are going to stick him out there.

He went home for the day off in Fla. nothing was said about it. I'm expecting him to be reduced to Lester and Arrietta on LHSP days. I really doubt Lackey gives a damn either way. He lives off his slider vs painting corners. Sure it helps but he is not a finesse guy. Hammel is another that uses a power slider and it helps having a framer but not really going to make or break him. Hendricks I'll bet will affect due to him being a location pitcher. Not sure to be honest.

I expect him to catch in the pen and sit with both Montero/Ross for a few days. Get some PH in. At that point you would figure he would be matched up with 1 guy where they can work on a game plan. You would want a vet starter to call the game more so. So I can see Lackey being ideal as he is a strait shooter.
