Is Indians really offensive? No doubt the logo was, but can't they come up with a new logo that's a nod to Native-Americans and keep the name. Honestly, the only team name that needed changing was the Redskins, and even then, I think they should've kept the Native-American theme.
To be honest you have to make a wall on these issues. India is a country. Native Americans were tagged Indian by mistake. It is a tag that has lasted to this date. But Indian is not what they are. They are Native Americans. Not from India.
So I do get the dislike of that term. Brave has really nothing to do with it. Redskin is derogatory. White people who get sunburns get red skin. It is not a term of endearment at all. Using the term Redskin is akin to calling a African American a N. Or a Hispanic a S.
So in reality yes they should change it because it is a term that is derogatory. I'm pretty sure there would be pushback if Hockey team named themselves the Honkies and refused to sign or draft minorities.
Times change and I get how it offends some people.
It is not the word. It is what the word represents. As a business you have to market your self and selling a term in these current times that can be seen as race related can pose to be a poor PR move.
After these last 4 years where we are seeing a rebirth to the Jim Crow era teams like this should push their agenda towards bringing the country together vs apart. Shoot we are all Americans. Not some are better American and others are lesser Americans.
