Muskat Ramblings: 6/12 An end to Wells' 1st inning curse?

The Cubs may have found the answer to Randy Wells' first inning curse. Lou Piniella and Larry Rothschild looked at some film of Wells' delivery and feel they've found a minor mechanical flaw when he's pitching out of the stretch.

"It's off the stretch, not off the windup," Piniella said. "Notice that when [Wells] has his troubles, or has had his troubles, there's a guy on base. When he's going good off the windup, he gets one, two, three innings. We feel that Larry hit on something that will help him off the stretch."

Wells suffered his fifth straight loss Friday, and is 0-5 with a 6.47 ERA in his last eight starts. Teams are batting .357 against him in the first inning.

Rothschild fixed Silva, so he can easily fix Wells.

I'm still going with the whole he was out until 5 am with the Hawks. Dude is a partier. And even though it led to a pretty bad outing, I would do it too.

starting pitching hasnt really been the problem....wells has been pretty bad, but if we could score more than 2 runs a game maybe we could bail him out every once in a while!

Either way, and ERA over 5 just won't do it.

Let's hope he looks a lot better than he has recently. The Cubs need all the help they can get

Rothschild fixed Silva, so he can easily fix Wells.

Rothschild had literally NOTHING to do with the fixing of Carlos Silva.

That was 100% Greg Maddux moving him over to the left of the rubber and sliding his arm slot up.
