Imagine still buying diamonds to propose in 2018. Guy deserves it, he picked the chicc who wants a ring instead of someone woke enough to know better than to support that evil industry.

For serious.

Also...she is the one that has to wear the ring so why should her criticism be so easily dismissed?

Sure going straight to Facebook was beyond stupid, but so is the average man spending literally thousands of dollars on jewelry for what is probably the very first time in his life and expecting him to nail it.

Just take her to buy the ring...to hell with rituals. It makes so much more sense it is astounding that peeps would do it any other way.

This will work out better for him in the long run.
The wedding wasn't grand enough. The honeymoon wasn't long enough. The car isn't nice enough. The house isn't big enough. On and on until he snaps and kills her. Run Now!

What if the guy is a cheapskate? I know your first assumption is that the woman is "a *****" but what if the man is a total loser?

Facebook group dedicated to ring shaming? That's disturbing that this isn't abnormal behavior.

I read the article. Was the fiancee (woman) complaining about the style of diamond, or the size/value?

I don't know much about diamonds, but the article said she wrote, “Ewwwww. Self shame Friday here I come,” she wrote. “Found this in the BF’s nightstand. Not a fan.” and asked how she can ask the BF to get different diamond. That makes it sound like she didn't like the style, not that she thought it was small. The article suggests she posted at a "ring shaming FB group". I don't know if that group shames size/value or style. I have no idea.

Do people actually dislike a diamond cut? I mean I know there are different cuts, but could she really be that repelled by the cut, which I would assume would be a standard cut? Or am I being naive, that of course she was talking about the size/value?

If I thought my fiancee wanted a diamond ring, I think I would borrow one for my proposal, and if she said yes, I'd have her pick one out herself, as she's the one who has to wear it. I would hope she wouldn't desire a wealth status symbol on her finger, and otherwise feel shame about the size, but I'd want to know, and we'd work something out, or maybe not.

Well now, i have never bought my wife a ring when we got married,............. And she has never said anything about wanting a ring, she is the farthest from being materialistic.
But, maybe now i should, the time is right.....I mean she does have me for a husband, what more can a gal want???

Everything nowadays has to show status. People have become so shallow and materialistic.

If by "nowadays" you mean since the dawn of time, then yes.

1. Guy bought the ring in a gumball machine, she is right.
2. It's a good ring, she's a *****.
3. FB sucks.
4. **** diamonds.
