EDIT: the charges were dropped thursday, but still this entire situation never should have happened.

two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer and one count of eluding police—each carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $2,500 in fines. Thats 15 years she is potentially facing over a misunderstanding and her expected fight or flight response.

Basically she bought sparkling water, and the cops suspected she was an underager with beer and jumped out guns drawn in plain clothes screaming at her and as expected (since they werent uniformed) the kid freaked out and fled (she also CALLED 911, which in my opinion confirms her confusion over whether the people coming at her were in fact law enforcement or someone trying to hurt her).

Thats all irrelevant in my opinion. ON WHAT FUCKING PLANET IS THAT SORT OF CONFRONTATION WARRANTED FOR AN UNDERAGE KID WITH BEER.

Better yet, why are tax payers paying 7 FUCKING AGENTS PAYCHECKS, to stake out a grocery store to nab 18-20 year olds for buying beer underage and how the **** did they even know if she was underage or not? I can assure you if a bunch of plain clothes people with fucking guns drawn jumped out at me in my car you can bet your ass I would put the pedal to the floor and ask questions later.

In my college days cops nabbed kids for underage drinking all the damn time (I was one of them). Never once didn't I hear a cop even raise his voice, let a lone drawn his weapon when trying to ticket someone for underage possession/intoxication. The cop that got me was cool as hell about it.

Its unreal. As I said, at Illinois State, Cops were busting underagers all the time, and it was never anything remotely like that. Drawing their fucking weapon?! Over a underage college kid with beer ROFL! and in this case "suspected of" but ultimately committing no crime? This is just stupid beyond all hell.

all the cops ever did with us is make us dump whatever booze we had. Some of the unlucky ones who would give the cops lip would get a ticket. If they got the ticket then the booze got dumped if no ticket the cops took the booze and obviously took it home. Cops never raised a voice on us either they would usually just stand there with a smirk on their faces. Coming from a small town though it became a game for the cops and us. They knew where we were all the time and we knew where they were. It was a fun cat and mouse game.

I got caught once (i was always pretty slick) and got a ticket because I was lippy and in a mood. I actually fought the ticket because thats the kind of kid I was. It got thrown out because I charmed the judge and they knew it was a waste of time. Those minor in possession charges are easy to get thrown out when i was young...but I was also in good standing in the community so that never hurt. If you are going to be a young trouble maker you better put your time in doing good community shit also. It cancels out all the times you get busted for being a dick...thats my message to the youths of today. ;)

But yah this story is absurd.

You know, I've even noticed on "COPS" that most of the time when those guys are busting folks for underage drinking, it's still really chill - and that's when they have a CAMERA on them and could easily get away with being douches to look tough on film.

Makes me wonder if there's more to this story than we're being fed.
