The swimming post got me thinking about this. I have a crystal clear memory to this day of being at a motel on vacation. I remember the hot sun, and that I was wearing white terry cloth trunks with a blue waistband, and a red anchor and rope logo embroidered on them. I recall finding what to me seemed like a kid's pool, but was probably more of a footbath for the big pool...it was poured concrete, about 4' x 4' square, about 6" deep. It was coated with a sky blue shiny waterproof paint. It had a white plastic hose attached to a pump, which was humming. There was a cement block in one corner, the hollow kind with three dividers, laying on its side. Not sure of the motivation, but I remember standing on the block, facing the guests at the big pool, and screaming at them....like "AHHHHH!" continuously until my dad came over and said, "What's wrong?" I said, "Nothing." and stepped off the block.

From photos of me on that trip, including one of me playing in that pool that day, I was no more than 3.

What's your oldest memory?

I remember my 3rd birthday party. Had a big number 3 in frosting on a white cake. I was pretty proud of myself knowing what 3 meant even if I didn't know how the number related to my birthday. Party was probably on a weekend anyway and not even on my actual birthday. 3 year old don't know shit about calendar.
Later that day my dad and my mom's boss went out to our little local airport and got into boss's prop plane and went for a fly around.
I remember seeing him and dad moving controls around and thought, "That looks easy. I'm gonna fly this motherfucker!"
So I climbed up front and grabbed the wheel from my dad.
Then I did a triple barrel roll and stuck a sideways landing.
Not really, dad just tossed me back into the back and said I didn't know shit about flying.

Wow......Oldest memory is my worst memory. Remember climbing onto the kitchen counter at the age of 3 with my sisters help to try and get my mother's shoes because she was sitting outside in her nightgown and no shoes in February in Kansas. She died of pneumonia a few days later later.

Sorry for the Debbie Downer post.

Later that year or the next year I went on my 1st real road trip vacation to see old friend of my dad (and the whole family) in Virginia Beach. I was told about dad's homie's kid and how we were gonna be so tight just like our dads.
Got there and found out he was a little guy. I don't want to play with this baby, but he's only other kiddo around. I'll deal with it.
Then we went to the beach.
Someone got a pic of me holding my little homie's hand.
I remember why I grabbed his hand.
The ocean is big and wet as **** and I wasn't gonna let him walk into it.
