I'd have to say hockey. For most of the game the fans are right on you and the fans are crazy. What do you think?

College Basketball.

Professional sports are different because it's not a bunch of crazy, drunken, idiots like in College sports.

basketball, when a home crowd is into it, the players start feelin' it usually.

I'd say hockey is the least beneficial for home advantage. This year's playoffs is your proof right there. Caps and Penguins lose Game 7 at home, to an 8 seed. The Hawks win the first two in San Jose and all 3 in Vancouver.

I'd say basketball is first, then football, then baseball and hockey last. Didn't Pittsburgh win Game 7 in Detroit last year too? There's a ton of examples, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

True, I'm primarily following the Flyers though so home ice has mattered greatly. How about Ping Pong?

I think football, the fans get so into it. Plus the noise actually can effect the other teams ability to audible.

Yes it has. Amazing run the Flyers have had. Get in on the last day of the season and now you're two games away from the Stanley Cup. I can't get over the East playoffs, it's been nuts.

That's a good point, especially if it's a dome game.

Another reason for football would be the actual field. I remember the terrible games Barry Sanders would have outdoors in the playoffs because he was used to doing it indoors. Peyton Manning not being able to win at Foxboro etc..

Football and basketball are close.

I misread your question a bit too. I'm just looking at it from a playoffs perspective. So my bad.

But overall I still think hockey and baseball are the least because you can be beat by 1 guy. A hot goalie or a hot pitcher.

Good topic.

Imma go with football. Not only because of the crowds ability to affect opposing offenses but because of the turf and weather conditions. How many sure thing kickers have missed at Soldier Field? How many players have changed cleats because of the gross field?

Teams in Denver definitely benefit.

I'd have to say college hoops...the atmosphere and intensity at (for example) a Syracuse game, or Duke game is pretty much unmatched by any other venue in all of sports...At Cameron Indoor, the fans are basically right on top of the court, so it's almost like an extra 30 thousand players on the floor.
