So quick question for those of you a little older here. I'm standing in my front yard just a few minutes ago watching my daughter and her friends play and I see these high school aged boys throwing glass bottles on the main street about 5 houses down. My immediate response is to raise my arms in the WTF are you doing pose and said something to the effect of "hey, what are you doing? You think that's funny?" or some BS like that...

I kept it clean, no curse words. I did "raise my voice" and expressed displeasure.

Now when I was that age I WAS THAT KID..... Lord only knows the stupid shit I pulled and the damage I caused. I was a little asshole...

So my question is.... Do you have that "get off my lawn" type moment now that you're an adult? Or do you keep your mouth shut? If it was MY kids I'd want another adult speaking up. I personally wish more adults would speak up.... but I'm not sure that's Kosher in today's society. Thoughts?

I was a little bastard when I was a teenager too.

Now at 41, I would have yelled at him, taken a video, and gone to his parents' house to show it to them and ask wtf they're going to do about their little shit.

I am not that old physically, but mentally I am very old.

I don't feel comfortable yelling at other people's kids....

I just exude an aura of malice and hate like Sauron on the battlefield at the end of the 2nd Age of Middle Earth right before Isildur cut the ring off his finger.

I always look like im about to do dis...

I would have given him a ring of power, then enslaved him for eternity.

I was too afraid of my parents to be an asshole.

In that situation I would have kept my mouth shut. Don’t feel like dealing with some little future democrats vandalizing my home/vehicles.

When I was 17 or 18 I was driving a friend home and decided to try a new short cut.
Well, the short cut road actually ended on a grassy hill.
Instead of turning around I thought I could make it over the hill.
I couldn't and I ended up burning rubber and grass on the base of the hill for about a minute or two before giving up and turning around.
As I made my turn and started to drive off I noticed an old man coming out of his home next to the hill, running at my car.
When I stared into the mirror it looked as though he was trying to read my plate# (sort of running bent over with squinting eyes). It was turning dusk.
I immediately turned off my headlights to kill the plate light, opened my window, flipped him off and laughed out loud with my buddy.
Good times~

Now at 43 I guess I'd be the one running and being laughed at...:(

They're teenagers, just outsmart them.

I had something like that happen to me a few years ago when the whole Mexican coke thing started to become big and the same kid walked by and would finish his drink at the same time every other day and just spike it into a storm drain with glass shattering everywhere.
Long story short, I had the kid on his knees cleaning it up and apologizing and as far as I know, he never walked by my house again. Same like you, I don't want little kids hurting themselves on glass. Riding a bike, skinning their knees in broken glass. WTF are they thinking?

I too did some stupid shit as a kid, but I usually got into trouble when I did something really stupid.

In your scenario, I probably would have done the same thing. Maybe even chased them just to make them pee a little. It's where you live, you pay taxes, you want it to look nice and you want a safe neighborhood for your kids, etc. There's just no reason for shit like that. Anytime something is being destroyed/vandalized that's no bueno for anyone.

I’d curse them out, call them names and hurt their feelings.

Don't yell too loud or one of their overprotective parents will call the cops on you.

I've handled this 2 different ways.

1st time, I was yelling at them. Well I have 2 smashed windshields about a week later.

2nd time, I went up and talked to them, asked them to clean it up and be considerate of others who may get cut by the glass. Had 1 smashed windshield about a week later.

I'm sure I will get it right next time.

Next time wait till they leave, go out sweep up all the glass quietly, load it into a blunderbuss, then wait. You will get it right the 4th time. =)
