Not getting his phone calls returned.

Veteran NFL quarterback Jay Cutler still is looking for a new team after the Chicago Bears cut him following last season, and he reportedly had an interest in playing for the Houston Texans. But NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Saturday during draft coverage that the Texans never even returned his calls.

At one point, the pairing looked like at least a remote possibility. ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson reported early last week that the Texans once had “a mild interest” in Cutler after they dumped Brock Osweiler and his contract on the Browns. But Coach Bill O’Brien apparently wanted to roll with Tom Savage, and then the Texans took Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson in the first round Thursday. The dream is over or never even got off the ground, depending on whom you believe.

[Deshaun Watson went No. 12 in the NFL draft. Here’s why that’s pretty amazing.]

As for Cutler’s next move, that’s hard to predict at this point. His main problem is that no one really needs a quarterback right now, especially a 34-year-old quarterback (his birthday was Saturday, actually) who played in just five games last season because of thumb and shoulder injuries. The Jets were “seriously interested” in signing him, Dickerson notes, but instead went with journeyman Josh McCown after Cutler canceled a trip to New York for personal reasons.

So it’s either likely retirement or wait until another quarterback gets hurt during minicamp or training camp (which is almost certain to happen). Cutler is only one season removed from the best passer rating of his career in 2015. Someone will have a need, probably.

Wife Kristin Cavallari says — somewhat cryptically — that it’s all good, in any case.

“I don’t want to say too much, but exciting things are happening for him,” she told People in a story about how the family is moving from Chicago to Nashville, where Cutler went to college. “He hasn’t said what he’s going to do next year, and I’ll let him say that when it’s time to, but he’s good. He’s good.”

he is the future of the Bears in my opinion. Glennon is going to play poorly and his feelings are hurt, Bears will sign Cutler and he will play for another 10+ years

Yeah, lets cut bait on Trubisky. I do find it hard to believe that not 1 team wants to sign him, even as a backup.

This is quite literally the absolute last thing I expected to see in this thread.

Kudos on still surprising me CCS.

I still think Houston should bring him in on a one year deal. Ideally they sit Watson because they are built to win it all in 2017. I would not feel good about pinning my Superbowl chances on Tom Savage.

I thought it was said Jay would not sign anywhere to be a backup, he wants to sign as a starter or not at all.

Hence no one will sign him lol

It's sad. Jay is finding out no one wants him.

It won't be long before he calls Halas Hall back and starts saying this:

Jay, "Hey Bill, I'd love to be your quarterback this coming season."

Bill O'Brien, "Naw fam, we got Savage."

At least he doesn't have AIDS.. there's always a silver lining when you read stories like these.

Thanks for posting OP. The way he was talked up around these parts, I figured someone would have been willing to sign him for a medium sized bag of funyons and an insulin shot.

How close did the Cowboys get with their rookie?

Not sure I'd feel much better with pinning them on Cutler

The Texans have 4. He'll walk in and be brilliant from week one. Neither Cutler or Savage will be doing anything relevant in that team's playoff runs over the next few seasons.

bearmick didn't provide as much hate as I thought he would.

I'm almost disappointed.

The rest of the league figured out that jay was never going to take the next step right around 2009-2010...2011 cemented that fact. the only ones who couldnt see that were emery and a handful of morons on this board.

He has to be one of the luckiest guys I have ever seen- 7 years of no competition for his position despite being mediocre at best, and paid an absolutely insane amount of money by the bears that was far beyond what any other team in the league would have shelled out for him.

Thank god that era is over.

I don't hate Jay, I just wanted the Bears to go in a new direction for the last year or six.
