I've been thinking about moving for awhile. I've lived in the same state my entire life. Would like to get out and explore a little while I'm still young. What's the best place you have lived and why?

I've lived in Arizona, Texas, Nevada and Colorado. Colorado, imo, has everything. Garden of Eden and you get every professional sport. I love it. We have had a TON of people moving here the past 10 years. It's beginning to feel crowded.

This place. First came here when I was a baby. My folks bought a shack there in 1961. A Victorian fixer upper first built in the late 1890s. It cost $2000 and my dad borrowed the money from a wealthy manufacturer who he did odd jobs for. He paid him off thru further odd jobs. The house is still in the family and could easily fetch over $350-$400k. I spent many summers there in the sixties and lived and worked there on and off from the seventies until 1999. I was bartender, gift shop owner, motel owner and a "miner, mucker and mean motherfly". The quotation marks are local humor quoted by many fellow miners. I married a local gal in 1988. Her family had moved by then to Grand Junction,CO. A ok place but not Silverton. Under threat of divorce I sold my motel and moved to Grand Junction. Two years later she divorced me anyway and I was stuck in Grand Junction. I own a home now in Palisade, Co which is a little east of Grand Junction. It's a nice place. More small townish and known for peaches and wine.

Everywhere I have lived with my wife. If I was young I would give Alaska a shot.

Many old movies were filmed in and around Silverton including The Naked Spur, Around the World in 80 Days, Winter hawk featuring the beautiful Dawn Wells and famous character old school actor Elisija Cook who got drunk and shit all over our toilet during a dinner party, True Grit, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Ticket to Tomahawk. Lots of car commercials are also filmed on the nearby Million Dollar Highway.

You'd have to go crazy when the sun is only out 3 or 4 hrs a day or whatever it is, I would. Plus 9 months of winter, **** that.

When I was young I loved winter. It would be an adventure as long as a Polar Bear didn't eat me.

A stripper I met in Phoenix was moving to Alaska because the tips were bigger. She invited me to come along but I declined. Always wondered what if?

I'm with you on the Alaska thing. Would be a cool place to visit, but I have zero desire to live there. I hate how it gets dark by 4:45 now, let alone when you rarely get any sunlight.

Lived in six states and two countries. I honestly don't know where is my favorite or what I consider the best. Maybe Chicago, just not 2016 Chicago, but a Chicago that is long gone. Also loved living in Hawaii until the Island fever caught up to me. Loved my short residence in Milwaukee, hated living near Green Bay which is one of the biggest shitholes on earth.

Well thanks. I've been told several times to write a book about my past but I don't think I have the skill or if anyone would buy it.

Probably would have become a raging alcoholic like many Alaskans. Its also a very expensive habit up there. If anyone wants to make some money on a trip to AK...take bottles of quality hard liquor and sell them up there. Ez profit.

Where I live in Oregon.

I've been to Bend, OR. That's a cool area, but it was like nobody had a job. It was the middle of the week and everyone was out shopping or drinking coffee at a cafe.
