If you had enough money to buy a studio at Trump Tower or a 1 bedroom in Old Town (still a nice building, though not as nice as Trump), which would you pick?

It's close, but I'd probably go with studio at Trump. You get access to room service, the valet service, the health club and the spa. You also have three bars and restaurants in the building. The views are also gonna be better.

I live in old town and love it. Close to public transit, good bars and restaurants and most importantly pretty safe.

  1. Chicago Bulls
I already deal with enough high-society types with more judgment than courtesy in my line of work. Maybe Oldtown, but I'd prefer stay where I am, thank you.

Leaning that way. Hard to beat the location.

are you going to be living there alone? if its just you a studio is manageable, but wouldn't you rather have the extra space in a one bed?

also I would think the one bed in old town would be easier to rent out if you needed to.

Yes would be just me. The space in a 1 BR would be ideal but for me but the location/living environment is always the priority.

Really? I would think the opposite given that the Trump Tower is big with vacationers.

Its not super young, there are a lot of families and professionals in the area. Maybe you are getting the young vibe because of the bar scene?

If you have a car and dont mind a downtown commute, look at the far NW or SW sides and get you a nice little Bungalow

That and the restaurants. Whenever I walk by, I see a bunch of young folks, lots of hot girls.

A car's not even necessary for that. A studio in the Trump is going to run around $500,000 plus HOA fees. A bungalow in a place like Albany Park or Portage Park will run you less than that, and it would be within walking distance of the blue line.

You could also find a cheaper bungalow that's in need of repair and restore it the way that you wanted it. Whether you got a restoration project or a place that was ready for move-in, you'd never have to worry about HOA.

Or you could just buy a condo in North Center, Ravenswood or Lincoln Square. That's a great area. You could find a nice 2-bedroom in the $300,000 range. If you make the same payments you would on the $500,000 place, you would have it paid off in 15 years.
